Valentine’s Day is Dead (especially for women!)

2013-01-31 — /travelprnews.com/ — A recent survey by Essential Travel, the leading online travel essentials provider, has found that 32% of respondents (out of a total of 1,306) say that Valentine’s Day isn’t important at all, and another 20% agree that it’s not important but would still like something on the day. That’s over half of us that think that Valentine’s Day is a waste of time.

But what is even more surprising is that of those that do hold Valentine’s Day in some regard. Almost double the number of men (17.9% ) as women (9.1% ) said that it is still important to them. Have women become disillusioned, or are men today just more romantic?

Reclaim Valentine’s Day:

Relationship Psychotherapist Amanda Falkson thinks we should reclaim Valentine’s Day:

“How disappointing to learn that Valentine’s Day has taken a back seat. Yes, of course it is wildly commercialised but your gesture doesn’t have to be, and when there’s a legit opportunity to romance someone, I’d say grab it with both hands! Romance is so validating and affirming – and we all need more of that”.

3 Steps to Reclaiming romance:

1. Actions mean more than words

Hypnotherapist and author of Living With Depression, Caroline Carr warns: “As we can keep in constant contact via text or email now, maybe messages just don’t seem that romantic, especially when you can send and re-send them, and also show all your friends instantly.” What can you do to show, rather than just tell, your partner how much you care?

2. The element of surprise

Over a third of those who are hoping to go away this year (243 of 664) wanted to be surprised or whisked away. It’s important to go beyond boring.

3. Think all the frills

Over half of our respondents would like a little extra pampering such as an overnight stay at an airport hotel before flights, enjoying a cocktail away from the hustle and bustle of the main airport in an airport lounge, or being looked after with a meet and greet airport parking service, where you can leave your car with a chauffeur and walk straight into the terminal, and have it there waiting for you when you get back. What can you do to upgrade your Valentine experience, whatever it is?
