Singapore Positions Changi Airport as Key Node in Asia Pacific Logistics Network Through SF Group Collaboration

Changi Airport Group has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding with SF Group to develop Changi Airport as the company’s first overseas air logistics hub. According to the airport’s press release, the agreement marks a significant step in SF Group’s international expansion strategy while reinforcing Singapore’s position as a regional center for air cargo and transshipment.

Under the agreement, SF Group will establish its overseas hub operations at Singapore Changi Airport, using the location to strengthen connectivity across Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Oceania. The move is expected to increase cargo flows through the airport, particularly in high-value and time-sensitive shipments, as regional trade continues to grow.

The partnership is designed to leverage both Singapore’s geographic position and Changi Airport’s existing infrastructure. As a major consolidation and redistribution point for goods moving between Asia-Pacific and global markets, the airport already hosts leading logistics operators such as DHL Express, FedEx Express, and UPS, creating a competitive ecosystem for express cargo handling.

SF Group, which is among the largest integrated logistics providers in Asia and globally, brings significant operational capacity to the collaboration. Its aviation arm, SF Airlines, operates a fleet of more than 90 freighter aircraft and currently runs daily cargo services between Singapore and Shenzhen. The expansion of its presence at Changi is expected to enhance network connectivity and improve the speed and reliability of cross-border logistics services.

For Changi Airport Group, the agreement aligns with broader efforts to strengthen its cargo capabilities alongside passenger growth. The airport currently connects Singapore to around 170 cities worldwide, supported by nearly 100 airlines operating over 7,000 weekly flights. While widely known for its passenger experience, Changi has also developed into a key logistics node, particularly for high-value goods and e-commerce shipments.

The collaboration also reflects wider trends in global trade and logistics, where supply chains are becoming more complex and demand for faster, more secure delivery solutions continues to rise. By positioning Singapore as a central hub within SF Group’s network, the partnership aims to improve regional distribution efficiency and support businesses operating across multiple markets.

The agreement comes as Asia-Pacific remains one of the fastest-growing regions for air cargo, driven by expanding intra-regional trade and increasing demand for express delivery services. Strengthening infrastructure and partnerships at major hubs like Changi is seen as critical to maintaining competitiveness in this environment.

With the five-year framework now in place, both organizations are expected to progressively expand operations and connectivity, reinforcing Singapore’s role as a strategic logistics gateway for the region and beyond.
