Brussels Airport Advances Mobility Strategy with New Bus Station Ahead of 2030 Transport Hub Completion
(IN SHORT) Brussels Airport will relocate its bus station from 7 May 2026 to a new temporary location 100 metres from the terminal as part of preparations for the Hub 3.0 infrastructure project. The new station will feature five platforms serving all bus operators, including De Lijn, STIB/MIVB, and intercity coach providers, without affecting existing schedules. Handling around 600 bus movements daily and serving 1.3 million passengers annually, bus transport remains a vital component of airport access. The relocation allows construction of a new intermodal hub, which by 2030 will integrate rail, bus, taxi, and tram services to improve connectivity and passenger experience.
(PRESS RELEASE) ZAVENTEM, Belgium, 2026-Apr-30 — /Travel PR News/ — Brussels Airport will introduce a temporary relocation of its bus station starting 7 May 2026 as part of preparations for its long-term Hub 3.0 infrastructure development. The new bus station, situated approximately 100 metres from the departure and arrival hall, will serve all bus traffic for the duration of the construction period, which is expected to last around four years.
The relocation is necessary to free up space for the construction of a future intermodal transport hub, designed to integrate multiple modes of transport into a more efficient and accessible system by 2030. Despite the change in location, all bus services will continue to operate according to their existing schedules, ensuring continuity for passengers and staff.
The new facility will feature five platforms accommodating a wide range of services, including public transport operated by De Lijn and STIB/MIVB, as well as intercity coach providers such as FlixBus, Flibco, and Airport Express. All bus routes serving the airport will use this new station, which remains located at ground level and connected to the terminal via a covered walkway and newly designated access point.
In addition to transport services, the relocated station will also house passenger lockers, allowing travellers to store luggage securely before or after their journeys, offering added convenience for those visiting the city without their bags.
Bus transport plays a critical role in airport accessibility, with approximately 600 bus movements recorded daily—exceeding the number of flights. Each year, around 1.3 million passengers and employees rely on bus services to travel to and from the airport. The temporary station ensures that these operations can continue smoothly during the construction phase.
The broader Hub 3.0 project aims to significantly enhance connectivity at Brussels Airport by consolidating public transport options into a single, integrated hub. Planned upgrades include improved links to the underground railway station, a redesigned central bus station, a modernised taxi area, dedicated facilities for intercity buses, and a new tram terminus.
Through these developments, Brussels Airport is strengthening its role as a key mobility hub, improving accessibility and travel experience for passengers, employees, and the wider community.
