Sydney, Australia, 2018-Jul-19 — /Travel PR News/ — Mandy Wu will join Tourism Australia in August as Country Manager for China, Australia’s largest and highest yielding international inbound market.
Based in Shanghai, Ms Wu will set the direction of Tourism Australia’s marketing and PR activity in China as well as ensuring Australia has strategic working relationships with key partners.
Ms Wu joins Tourism Australia from Cathay Pacific where she gained over 15 years of international experience leading teams in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Brunei and Canada.
Her most recent position at Cathay Pacific was as Corporate Affairs Manager leading the airline’s engagement with government, media and other key opinion leaders.
Tourism Australia’s Regional General Manager for North Asia, Andrew Hogg, said Ms Wu’s understanding of China and the broader Asia region were key factors in her appointment.
“China is a critical market for Australian tourism and one where effective stakeholder management is key,” Mr Hogg said.
“Mandy has a deep knowledge and understanding of the region, an extensive network of contacts and a strong aviation background which are ideally suited to the role.”
China has recently overtaken New Zealand as Australia’s largest inbound market, also worth more than A$10 billion annually in tourism spending.
A record 1.35 million people visited Australia from China in 2017, up 12.3 per cent compared to the previous year.
