(NEWS) OYSTER POND, Saint Martin, 2026-May-26 — /Travel PR News/ — Power outages are an occasional reality across many Caribbean islands, particularly during periods of extreme weather, infrastructure strain, or seasonal storms. For travelers, those interruptions can quickly shift a tropical getaway from relaxing to frustrating — especially in destinations where air conditioning, internet access, and water systems are essential parts of the modern hospitality experience.
In Saint Martin’s Oyster Pond area, boutique accommodation provider Kazanu is responding to that challenge with a new investment aimed at improving both guest comfort and operational resilience.
The property has announced the installation of a modern energy-efficient backup generator capable of powering the entire resort during island-wide outages. According to details shared in a press release published on TravelPRNews.com, the system is designed to maintain full functionality across guest accommodations and common areas, including air conditioning, lighting, Wi-Fi, kitchen facilities, swimming pool operations, hot tub systems, and other essential services.
Located on the quieter eastern side of Saint Martin near the French-Dutch border, Oyster Pond has become known for its relaxed atmosphere, marina access, and proximity to some of the island’s less crowded beaches. Properties in the area often cater to travelers looking for a more private and laid-back Caribbean experience away from the busier resort zones around Maho and Simpson Bay.
For hospitality operators across the Caribbean, infrastructure reliability has become an increasingly important part of long-term planning. Extreme weather events, rising energy costs, and ageing utility systems have pushed many hotels and villas to invest in backup systems, renewable energy, and self-sufficiency measures designed to reduce operational disruption.
Kazanu says the new generator installation forms part of a wider sustainability and infrastructure strategy already underway at the property.
In 2025, the accommodation introduced several environmentally focused upgrades, including reverse osmosis drinking water stations, purified ice production systems, and solar energy integration throughout the property. The addition of backup power is intended to complement those renewable energy efforts while ensuring uninterrupted service during outages.
The generator system was supplied and installed by local marine and technical services company Hugues Marine, which the property credited for helping complete the project.
The wider Caribbean hospitality industry has increasingly embraced a combination of renewable energy systems and backup technologies in recent years, particularly as islands seek to strengthen resilience against climate-related disruptions while also reducing dependence on imported fuel and traditional energy infrastructure.
For smaller boutique properties, balancing sustainability with operational reliability has become especially important. Travelers increasingly expect environmentally conscious accommodations, but they also expect uninterrupted modern conveniences — particularly in upscale and long-stay lodging environments.
Kazanu positions itself as a modern naturist-friendly boutique accommodation offering a clothing-optional environment alongside contemporary amenities and wellness-focused travel experiences. The property combines tropical gardens, poolside relaxation areas, and apartment-style suites with easy access to beaches, restaurants, and outdoor activities across Saint Martin and Sint Maarten.
As Caribbean tourism operators continue adapting to infrastructure challenges and evolving guest expectations, investments in resilience — whether through solar integration, water purification systems, or backup energy technology — are becoming as important to hospitality operations as beachfront views and luxury amenities.
