New sponsorship extension strengthens American Airlines and Miami HEAT collaboration across sports and community initiatives
(IN SHORT) American Airlines and the Miami HEAT have signed a new multiyear sponsorship extension that will continue American’s role as the team’s Official Airline. The agreement includes expanded fan experiences, AAdvantage loyalty programme benefits and in-arena promotions at Kaseya Center while building on a partnership that has lasted more than 25 years. The collaboration also supports community initiatives across South Florida and aligns with American Airlines’ broader investment and expansion plans in Miami.
(PRESS RELEASE) FORT WORTH, TX, United States, 2026-May-19 — /Travel PR News/ — American Airlines and the Miami HEAT have announced a new multiyear sponsorship extension that will see American continue as the Official Airline of the Miami HEAT, reinforcing a partnership that has spanned more than 25 years and reflects both organisations’ longstanding ties to the city of Miami.
The renewed agreement will continue to integrate American Airlines into Miami HEAT events and fan experiences throughout the NBA season, including in-arena promotions at the Kaseya Center and a range of loyalty and travel-related experiences for fans and members of the airline’s AAdvantage loyalty programme.
American Airlines Vice President of Miami International Airport Operations Juan Carlos Liscano said the partnership reflects the shared role both the airline and the basketball franchise have played in helping shape Miami’s identity as a global city over the past several decades. He noted that the collaboration continues to embody the city’s culture of ambition, resilience and community engagement.
Through the expanded sponsorship, AAdvantage members will gain access to exclusive Miami HEAT-related experiences, including sweepstakes entries, VIP access opportunities, travel packages to away games and special fan events. Members will also be able to redeem AAdvantage miles for game tickets and experiences connected to the team.
Miami HEAT Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer John Vidalin described American Airlines as a valued long-term partner and said the extension reflects a shared commitment to strengthening connections between the team, the airline and the wider Miami community.
The announcement also builds on milestone celebrations for both organisations during 2026. Earlier this year, American Airlines celebrated its centennial anniversary, while the Miami HEAT marked the 20th anniversary of its 2006 NBA championship-winning team. As part of the celebrations, American served as presenting partner for a commemorative game that included special fan experiences, in-arena recognition and a postgame concert featuring former Miami HEAT star Dwyane Wade. Selected AAdvantage members also received exclusive access to the event, including photo opportunities with the 2006 NBA Finals trophy and signed memorabilia giveaways.
Beyond sports sponsorship, the two organisations highlighted ongoing joint community initiatives across South Florida. Recent collaborations have included the HEAT Day of Service presented by American, which supported underserved communities through grocery distribution programmes and improvements to facilities at the Overtown Youth Center in partnership with former NBA player Alonzo Mourning.
The sponsorship extension also aligns with American Airlines’ broader investment strategy in Miami, where the airline continues to expand its operations at Miami International Airport. Earlier this year, American announced plans for a major redevelopment and expansion of Concourse D at the airport in partnership with Miami-Dade County, alongside plans for new Flagship and Admirals Club lounge facilities.
American Airlines has maintained a growing presence in Miami since launching operations at the airport in 1989 with 19 daily flights. Today, the carrier operates more than 400 peak daily departures from Miami International Airport to 170 destinations across 46 countries and territories, serving more than 32 million customers annually through the hub.
The partnership reflects the increasing role of sports sponsorships in strengthening airline loyalty programmes and customer engagement strategies while reinforcing American Airlines’ long-term positioning within the South Florida market.
