Centinel and IHG selected to modernize U.S. Air Force on-base lodging under long-term partnership agreement

(IN SHORT) Centinel Public Partnerships and IHG Hotels & Resorts have been selected by the Department of the Air Force to modernize and manage on-base lodging across U.S. Air Force installations under a 50-year agreement. The phased programme, beginning with 23 installations, will transition lodging operations toward commercial ownership and management while aiming to improve accommodation standards, operational efficiency and quality of life for service members and their families. The partnership builds on the companies’ existing collaboration through the Privatization of Army Lodging programme.

(PRESS RELEASE) NASHVILLE, TN, United States, 2026-May-19 — /Travel PR News/ — Centinel Public Partnerships and IHG Hotels & Resorts have been selected by the Department of the Air Force (DAF) as commercial partners for a major long-term initiative to modernize and operate on-base lodging across U.S. Air Force installations under a 50-year agreement.

The partnership will introduce a phased transition toward commercially owned and operated lodging facilities designed to enhance accommodation standards for service members, military families and official government travelers while supporting overall mission readiness across Air Force bases.

Under the agreement, Centinel will serve as the owner, developer, builder and asset manager for the lodging portfolio, while IHG Hotels & Resorts will oversee hotel management and day-to-day hospitality operations. The companies said the collaboration aims to combine military housing expertise with global hospitality management standards to improve the quality, consistency and operational performance of on-base lodging facilities.

According to the Department of the Air Force, finalisation of the agreement and operational transfer to Centinel and IHG are expected to be completed by autumn 2027. The rollout will begin with 23 installations across the United States and its territories as part of a phased implementation strategy intended to minimise operational disruption during the transition process.

Centinel brings more than 20 years of experience in developing, constructing and managing housing and hospitality infrastructure across U.S. Army, Air Force and Space Force installations. IHG, meanwhile, contributes extensive global hotel management capabilities alongside specialised experience serving military communities through long-running lodging partnerships.

The two companies already operate together through the Privatization of Army Lodging (PAL) programme, launched in 2009, which currently includes more than 70 hotels and over 12,000 hotel rooms across 40 military installations.

Justin Kern, Chief Executive Officer of Centinel Public Partnerships, said the new partnership reflects a collaborative effort between the Department of the Air Force, Centinel and IHG to modernise military lodging infrastructure while improving quality of life for military personnel and their families.

He added that the companies intend to build on their previous military lodging experience to create hospitality environments that not only meet operational requirements but also strengthen a sense of community across installations.

IHG Hotels & Resorts Chief Executive Officer Elie Maalouf said the company is honoured to extend its experience supporting military communities through the new Air Force lodging initiative. He noted that IHG’s involvement with the Army lodging programme has provided the company with deep insight into the specific needs of service members and their families.

The agreement reflects a broader trend within U.S. military infrastructure strategy toward public-private partnerships aimed at modernising housing and hospitality assets while leveraging private sector operational expertise and investment capabilities.

The programme is expected to support long-term infrastructure upgrades, operational efficiency improvements and enhanced guest experiences across participating Air Force installations over the coming decades.
