Queenstown Airport to host first ever Christmas Community Day to benefit local charity Let’s EAT

Queenstown, New Zealand, 2018-Dec-05 — /Travel PR News/ — Christmas is traditionally a time of good cheer, relaxation and celebration but for many people it can be tough.

With that in mind, we’re hoping to bring the airport and wider community together, spread some Christmas love and give to those who need a helping hand.

On Friday 14 December, 1-4pm, we’re holding our first ever Christmas Community Day in the forecourt and would love the community to can come along. There’ll be tons of fun for all ages with live music, face-painting, a Christmas-themed photo booth, sausage sizzle, Santa and more!  And it’s all for a good cause… the proceeds and all terminal parking payments for the afternoon will be donated to the local charity Let’s EAT, whose mission is to reduce food waste, feed people in need and bring people together by sharing food. The hardworking Let’s Eat team collects quality surplus food from local supermarkets that would otherwise be discarded and turns it into delicious, nutritious frozen meals. These meals are then distributed to those in the community going through a difficult time.

And we think that’s just awesome.

Another way for locals to help

The Let’s EAT team also runs Baskets of Blessing and this volunteer group is about our community reaching out and helping each other.  They are currently asking for donations for Christmas Baskets which will be delivered mid-December to those who need some support or a reason to smile in their current challenging situation.  If you would like to help, have a hunt around your home or workplace to see what you can donate.  We will have a container located in our Queenstown Airport office ‘The Base’ (in the terminal next to Enterprise Rental Cars near Baggage Carousel 1) if you would like to drop in some items before 12 December.

Donations for the baskets can be anything new, or as new.  Goodies can be varied as the baskets are for a wide range of people – some examples are new mums dealing with post-natal depression or a new-born baby, families with several children struggling with medical circumstances or elderly living on their own struggling with mobility after surgery.  Anything that is new/looks new is giftable – bathroom lovelies, any kitchen and cooking items, homemade goodies, relishes and jams, crafts, toys, books, magazines, soaps, candles, chemist items, costume jewellery, colouring books and puzzles, chocolate and nuts.
