Korean Air Maintains Top Tier Airline Status with Sixth Straight Skytrax 5 Star Certification
(IN SHORT) Korean Air has retained its 5-star airline rating from Skytrax for the sixth consecutive year, confirming its position among the world’s top carriers. The 2026 evaluation assessed over 550 service elements across the entire passenger journey, with the airline receiving strong marks for catering quality, cabin service, digital systems, and lounge facilities. Recent investments in next-generation lounges at Incheon International Airport and upgrades to international lounges contributed to improved scores. The recognition highlights Korean Air’s consistent focus on delivering a high-quality travel experience and reinforces its standing in the global aviation industry.
(PRESS RELEASE) SEOUL, South Korea, 2026-Apr-30 — /Travel PR News/ — Korean Air has once again achieved a 5-star airline rating from Skytrax, marking the sixth consecutive year the carrier has earned the highest distinction in the World Airline Star Rating 2026. The recognition places Korean Air among a select group of just ten airlines globally that currently hold this top-tier rating.
The latest evaluation followed a comprehensive audit process that began in January 2026, during which Skytrax assessed more than 550 service and product elements across Korean Air’s long-haul and regional operations. The review examined the full passenger journey, including airport services, transfers, lounges, onboard comfort, dining, in-flight entertainment, and cabin service.
Korean Air received particularly strong ratings for its digital platforms, operational systems, and onboard service delivery. The airline’s catering standards stood out during the assessment, with Skytrax highlighting the quality of ingredients, presentation, and overall dining experience across all travel classes. Meals served on flights departing from its hub at Incheon International Airport were noted for their especially high standards.
Cabin crew performance was also recognised as a key strength, with the airline maintaining consistent service quality throughout all cabin classes. The combination of attentive hospitality and efficient operations contributed to a positive passenger experience across different routes and service levels.
Improvements in lounge facilities further supported the airline’s overall rating. Korean Air recently completed a multi-year development programme at Incheon International Airport, introducing seven new-generation lounges, including upgraded First Class and Prestige Class West lounges. The airline is also enhancing its international lounge network, with a newly refurbished flagship facility at Los Angeles International Airport and plans to open an upgraded lounge at John F Kennedy International Airport later this year.
Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, stated that the continued 5-star certification reflects Korean Air’s consistent delivery of high-quality service across key areas such as cabin comfort, catering, and overall passenger experience.
The airline emphasised its ongoing commitment to improving service standards through continuous investment and innovation, aiming to exceed customer expectations in an increasingly competitive global aviation market.
This latest recognition adds to a series of industry awards for Korean Air, including multiple accolades at the World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo 2026 and previous honours such as Airline of the Year 2025 by Airlineratings.com and Asia Airline of the Year by CAPA.
