To celebrate the opening, Thomas Hoff Andersson, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, personally welcomed passengers on the first day of operations.

The new pier has been fully integrated into Terminal 1, enhancing the airport’s operational capacity and passenger experience. On its inaugural day, the facility handled more than 11,000 passengers and supported over 70 flights, demonstrating its readiness to operate at scale from the outset.

The launch was highlighted by several notable flight movements. An American Airlines arrival from Charlotte marked the first incoming flight at the new pier and was celebrated with a traditional water salute. The first departure was operated by Delta Air Lines, flying to Detroit. Adding to the occasion, a Cathay Pacific Airbus A350-900 arrived in a special retro livery commemorating the airline’s 80th anniversary.

The completion of the Terminal 1 pier concludes a construction project that spanned more than seven years. Throughout this period, development was carried out alongside ongoing airport operations, ensuring minimal disruption. The project also included a six-month testing phase to prepare the facility for full operational deployment.
