(NEWS) SAN ANTONIO, TX, United States, 2026-May-12 — /Travel PR News/ — Theme parks across the United States are continuing to expand their after-dark entertainment offerings, and this summer SeaWorld San Antonio is placing a major focus on nighttime programming with the return of Electric Ocean, accompanied by a new drone show, expanded live entertainment, and late-evening attractions.
According to a press release published by Visit San Antonio, the seasonal programme begins May 22 and is designed to extend guest activity well beyond daytime operations, reflecting a wider trend among parks seeking to increase evening attendance through immersive lighting, live performances, and technology-driven experiences.
A central addition this year is SeaWorld San Antonio’s first large-scale drone production, the SeaWorld Illuminight Drone Finale. The show will feature 400 synchronized drones creating animated aerial formations inspired by marine life, including depictions of dolphins, jellyfish, sharks, beluga whales, and orcas. The presentation is scheduled to run on Fridays through Sundays until August 9.
Drone-based nighttime spectacles have become increasingly common across destination entertainment venues, particularly as parks look for alternatives or complements to traditional fireworks displays. In this case, the choreography combines aerial lighting effects with a soundtrack focused on themes of marine conservation and ocean stewardship.
Electric Ocean will also include two nighttime animal-focused presentations. Shamu’s Celebration: Light Up the Night combines lighting, music, and performance elements around the park’s killer whale presentation, while Sea Lions Tonite! returns with updated comedy segments and live interactions centered around SeaWorld’s sea lion cast.
Additional evening programming includes the RhythMotion Ocean Parade, a procession featuring illuminated floats, performers, dancers, and themed music moving throughout the park during nighttime hours.
Returning for another summer season is Hydropower: Xtreme FX, the park’s waterski stunt production that combines pyrotechnics, live music, laser effects, and aerial stunts. The show, previously recognised with an IAAPA Brass Ring Award for Most Creative Sports/Stunt Show, will run from June 12 through August 2.
Alongside the entertainment lineup, the park is also highlighting its newest attraction, Barracuda Strike, described as the tallest inverted family coaster in North America. The ride is positioned as a family-oriented thrill attraction featuring high-speed turns, drops, and suspended coaster elements inspired by marine predators.
The expansion of nighttime programming reflects broader competition within the attractions sector, where parks are increasingly building multi-hour evening experiences to encourage longer guest stays and repeat visitation during peak travel seasons. Summer festivals, drone shows, and nighttime parades have become key components of destination strategies aimed at both local visitors and domestic travelers.
For SeaWorld San Antonio, Electric Ocean also serves as part of a wider summer calendar intended to combine rides, marine presentations, and entertainment under a single seasonal offering. Annual Pass products are being promoted around the programme, with benefits including unlimited visits and reserved seating options for select shows and attractions.
As parks continue investing in experiential entertainment and technology-enhanced productions, nighttime events are becoming an increasingly important part of the visitor economy — particularly in destinations like Texas, where extended summer evenings allow attractions to operate deep into the night.
Beyond the seasonal entertainment, SeaWorld continues to position itself around marine education, conservation, and animal rescue efforts. Across its parks in San Antonio, Orlando, San Diego, and Abu Dhabi, the company combines rides, attractions, and live presentations with year-round educational programmes and wildlife care initiatives. According to details shared by the company, SeaWorld has assisted more than 42,000 animals through its rescue operations over the past six decades, while the SeaWorld Conservation Fund has distributed more than USD 20 million to nearly 1,400 conservation and research projects worldwide since its establishment in 2003. The parks also maintain accreditations from organizations including the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, alongside Humane Certified recognition from American Humane.
