TUI Brings 70s and 80s Nostalgia to the Rhine With New Music Cruise

(NEWS) HANNOVER, Germany, 2026-Jun-5 — /Travel PR News/ — River cruise operators are increasingly experimenting with themed sailings as they look to attract new audiences beyond traditional cruise travellers. Music-focused itineraries, in particular, have become a growing niche, combining live entertainment with short-break travel experiences built around nostalgia and shared interests.

TUI River Cruises is entering that space with the launch of its first dedicated music-themed sailing, Rewind on the Rhine, a three-night cruise scheduled for November 2026 aboard the TUI Skyla. The itinerary will combine Rhine River cruising with a programme centred on 1970s and 1980s music.

Based on press announcement published on TUI Group, the themed voyage will be headlined by Gary Davies, known for his long broadcasting career and association with some of the most popular music of the era. Guests will be able to attend a DJ set featuring classic 1980s tracks as well as a question-and-answer session covering highlights from his career and experiences in the music industry.

Joining the programme will be ABBA Tribute Band Revival, which will perform a selection of the Swedish pop group’s best-known songs. The entertainment schedule will also include silent discos, themed quizzes, decade-inspired performances and screenings celebrating the music and culture of the 1970s and 1980s.

The sailing also coincides with the fifth anniversary of TUI River Cruises and will feature onboard celebrations marking the milestone. According to the company, the event is intended to appeal both to existing river cruise customers and travellers looking for a different type of short-break experience.

The cruise will operate from 18 to 21 November 2026, departing from Frankfurt and visiting Koblenz and Rüdesheim before returning to Frankfurt. Alongside the entertainment programme, guests will be able to enjoy the Rhine’s well-known landscapes, including vineyard-covered hillsides, historic castles and riverside towns.

The launch comes as TUI River Cruises continues to expand its river cruise business. The company currently operates four adult-only vessels on European waterways and two ships in Egypt, with additional vessels planned for launch in 2027 and 2028.

For the wider river cruise industry, themed sailings represent an opportunity to diversify products and attract travellers who may not typically consider a river cruise. By combining entertainment, cultural experiences and shorter itineraries, operators are increasingly targeting guests seeking more specialised travel experiences built around personal interests.
