Certified Hotels Gain Momentum as TUI Maintains Position on CDP Climate Change A List

(NEWS) HANNOVER, Germany, 2026-Jun-5 — /Travel PR News/ — TUI Group is highlighting new sustainability milestones as demand rises for hotels with independent environmental certification and the company receives renewed recognition for climate reporting.

The tourism group has been included in the CDP Climate Change A List for the fourth time, a recognition given to companies demonstrating transparent reporting, climate governance and measurable progress on climate action. The update was published ahead of World Environment Day on 5 June.

According to a press announcement published by TUI Group, TUI also reported a significant increase in customer demand for certified hotels. In financial year 2025, around 15 million TUI guests stayed in hotels with independent sustainability certification, compared with 10.5 million in financial year 2023. That represents growth of approximately 43% over two years.

The company said certified hotels are highlighted across its booking platforms and during travel agency consultations to help customers identify more responsible accommodation options. Eligible certifications must align with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council Hotel Standard, covering areas such as sustainable management, environmental and climate protection, local community support and cultural heritage preservation.

TUI’s sustainability strategy also includes investment in measures intended to reduce emissions and operating costs, including photovoltaic systems at hotels. The company argues that such investments can support both climate targets and business performance by lowering energy expenses while reducing environmental impact.

For the wider travel industry, the figures point to a growing link between sustainability credentials and customer choice. As travellers become more aware of environmental issues, independently certified accommodation is increasingly moving from a niche preference to a more visible part of mainstream holiday decision-making.

The update also reflects TUI’s effort to position sustainability as part of its broader business model rather than a standalone corporate responsibility programme. With more than 460 hotels and resorts, five airlines, 18 cruise ships and around 1,200 travel agencies, the group has significant influence across several parts of the tourism value chain.
