Four Seasons Hotel London at Canary Wharf Hosts Exhibition of Contemporary Works from Modern ArtBuyer

Collaboration sees the Hotel’s public spaces become art installation, with work from some of the UK’s most exciting talents creating a stimulating experience for all Hotel visitors.

London at Canary Wharf, England, 2012-09-21 — /travelprnews.com/ — Four Seasons Hotel London at Canary Wharf and Modern ArtBuyer launch the first of many art exhibits on Thursday, September 20, 2012 and throughout the Autumn. The ambiance of the Hotel’s public spaces will be enhanced and offset with playful contemporary artworks by local talents. Artists showing throughout the Hotel include Alexander Johnson, whose work is largely based on reconnaissance photographs taken by his father during the war, followed by Jason Keeley whose screen-prints epitomize the grace and beauty of the physical form.

In addition to the artwork exhibitions and especially for culture vultures, Four Seasons Hotel London at Canary Wharf also announces a vibrant entertainment program to complement the colourful surroundings. Every Thursday evening guests will enjoy live DJs, speciality cocktails using the art as inspiration and complimentary canapés creating the perfect place to wind down. By collaborating with Modern ArtBuyer, Four Seasons Hotel London at Canary Wharf continues to offer guests memorable experiences by making art a central part of the guest offering.

“In recent years, we have realized that many of our guests are also art aficionados and that cultural tourism, especially in the east-side of London, can begin the minute they arrive in the lobby of the Hotel,” explains Michael Purtill, general manager of Four Seasons London at Canary Wharf.

Jessica Lloyd-Smith, director at Modern ArtBuyer adds, “We’ve chosen to exhibit work that we know will enhance the Hotel environment and that we believe will appeal to the discerning business and leisure traveller. The stunning contemporary artwork will bring a sense of tranquility to the ultra-modern three-storey lobby.”

Commencing on September 20 with a launch party at Four SeasonsHotel London at Canary Wharf, guests will be able to view the art with a complimentary cocktail, while soaking up the energetic atmosphere from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. After the launch event there will be a variety of great food and beverage offers during the autumn. This week’s speciality cocktail is the Spitfire, infused with fresh chillies and inspired by the aerial theme of Alexander Johnson’s work.

About Alexander Johnson

Alexander grew up in Chichester in the shadow of the South Downs and had an early interest in making pictures as a boy, which developed into the desire to become an artist when he saw a Picasso sculpture in Antibes at the age of twelve. Following his Foundation Course at West Sussex College of Design, Alexander went on to complete a degree in Fine Art at Cardiff Art College. He has spent periods of his life living and exhibiting in both Barcelona and Holland, and currently lives and has a studio in Hove in East Sussex. Alexander’s work was largely figurative for a long period prior to moving into abstraction, and his current work is still influenced by the figurative tradition, often with elements of classical composition.

In Alexander’s own words: “My influences are broadly ranged from twentieth century abstract-expressionist painters to the graphic language and use of hot colours on the punk LP covers that originally inspired me to go to Art College. My most recent work has drawn inspiration from aerial reconnaissance photographs taken by my father during the war. I have used these black and white images as a starting point taking shapes and combining them with shots of bright colour from my own post-modernist reference points. I see this as a way of recycling these haunting images for a contemporary audience.” Alexander exhibits at the Brighton Art Fair and selected galleries nationwide throughout the year.
