Children From Robroyston Learn New Skills And Receive Valuable Support From Hilton Strathclyde

BELLSHILL, Scotland, 2012-10-31 — /travelprnews.com/ — Hilton Strathclyde is taking action to help young people in Robroyston achieve their full potential.

Team members from the hotel and the Livingwell Health Club have collaborated with St Philomena’s Primary School to deliver a programme of events designed to introduce the children to the world of hospitality, as well as allow team members the opportunity to pass on their skills and guidance to a brand new audience.

Julie Beaton, deputy manager of Hilton Strathclyde, and Linda Bertolacci, deputy head teacher of St Philomena’s have established a new partnership to give the children vocational access to training in food skills, nutrition, finance, healthy eating and exercise whilst working within the existing curriculum to ensure the children benefit academically.

Hilton Strathclyde team members will visit the school to pass on their knowledge, however the children will also have the opportunity to visit Hilton Strathclyde to see behind the scenes of a working hotel, visit the swimming pool and gym as well as observe a fully functioning, professional kitchen.

Beaton said, “We plan to work closely with Linda and the team at St Philomena’s to develop a set of events which will benefit both the children and their parents in giving access to a brand new set of skills.”

Over the coming months, the team will also be undertaking some essential volunteer work to help bring the school play environment up to a better standard, including painting hopscotch and other playground games in the children’s yard, planting a friendship garden as well as installing a bench and planting flowers.

Linda Bertolacci, deputy head teacher of St Philomena’s, said, “This business partnership is an amazing opportunity for the children in St. Philomena’s to bring the Curriculum for Excellence to life.

“As teachers, we strive on a daily basis to provide our children with real life experiences from which they can become true responsible citizens, effective contributors, successful learners and confident individuals. The planned programme of events includes financial education, enterprise education, health and wellbeing and literacy and numeracy skills.

“It will provide the children with a wealth of knowledge and experiences that they will be able to look back on in years to come and say, ‘I learned that skill at primary school when I was working with the staff from Hilton Strathclyde!’ “.

Part of the Hilton Hotels & Resorts portfolio, Hilton Strathclyde’s efforts are an example of Hilton Worldwide’s corporate responsibility strategy, Travel with Purpose, and reinforce the company’s global commitment to create opportunities for youth in its operating communities around the world.
