CDA celebrates the opening for the newest food and beverage offerings at Midway International Airport

CHICAGO, IL, 2019-Jun-25 — /Travel PR News/ — Today (06/21/2019), the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) and Midway Partnership celebrated the grand opening for the newest food and beverage offerings landing at Midway International Airport.

Hubbard Inn, located near Gate B7, is the 18th concession location to open at the airport as part of the 70 new food and retail brands arriving at the airport.  They are part of a three-year, $75 million concessions expansion that is transforming the concessions lineup for the first time in 20 years, offering travelers and families more reasons to choose Midway than ever before.

The restaurant features European inspired plates, quintessential and hand-crafted cocktails and beer offerings and a full-service bar. Passengers will find a wide range of options including shared plates, soups, salads, sandwiches, snacks and entrees.

Opened in December 2013, Hubbard Inn’s street side location in downtown Chicago quickly became a hit with Chicago’s foodie community with its creative, European inspired plates. The downtown location is currently undergoing renovations and is scheduled to re-open in a few months.

“The concept of utilizing linear space in the center of the concourse for a restaurant at Midway is a unique way to efficiently use space,” said Jamie L. Rhee, Commissioner, CDA. “Hubbard Inn is the first of three food and beverage locations to be constructed in the space from which moving walkways were removed.”

The concessions upgrade is part of the ongoing Midway Modernization Program (MMP) that is improving the Midway passenger experience by expanding concession options, expanding the security checkpoint, and enhancing the terminal parking garage.

“Hubbard Inn is another exciting addition to Midway’s invigorating eating and shopping program,” said Sammy Patel, CEO, Midway Partnership. “With a unique location in the airport and a menu representing our vibrant local culinary scene, Hubbard Inn is the latest example of our collective commitment to delivering a sense of place to Midway. Along with our partners SSP America and the Chicago Department of Aviation, we are ready to welcome visitors and locals alike who will undoubtedly appreciate this authentic Chicago dining experience.”

The MMP is a nearly $400 million investment in the future of Midway International Airport. It’s the largest improvement program at the airport in nearly 20 years and will upgrade travelers’ experience flying from, to, or through Midway. MMP is expected to create over 2,500 jobs and includes amenities such as updated and expanded concessions, a vastly improved passenger screening experience, and improved parking facilities.

Today’s ribbon-cutting ceremony comes on the heels of the recent openings of 17 new retail and dining offerings throughout the airport including the new Concourse A Food Hall featuring many unique, locally-inspired restaurants.  They include Arami Sushi, Billy Goat Tavern, Woodgrain Neapolitan Pizza, Nuts on Clark, Reilly’s Daughter, DeCOLORES Restaurantè Mexicano,  iStore, FAO Schwarz and two locally inspired bookstores –  ink by Hudson. Other hometown brands include BIG & little’s, Big Shoulders Coffee and PorkChop BBQ that are bringing new menu choices and amenities to travelers for the first time in nearly two decades.

Another hometown favorite – Harry Caray’s – is scheduled to re-open at Midway this fall.
