Budapest Airport recorded the highest level of traffic ever for the month of March

Budapest, 2014-04-22 — /Travel PR News/ — Budapest Airport recorded the highest level of traffic ever for the month of March. According to recently published statistics, 662 575 arriving and departing passengers used the terminals and the services of Budapest Airport last month.

The excellent traffic performance is all the more noteworthy as the Easter holidays usually fall in March, further contributing to traffic. This was the case last year, when Easter Sunday was on 31 March. This year, however, Easter will only come at the end of April, so it is all the more significant that traffic at Budapest Airport in March was 5% higher compared to the same month last year. The load factors of certain airlines, both from the full service and low cost segments, exceeded 90%, which is excellent even by international comparison. Moreover, March is the last month of the winter schedule period, as the summer schedule, which promises even greater traffic with lots of new flights, starts at the same time as summer time (daylight saving time).

The 2014 summer schedule will see 37 airlines offering flights to 85 destinations from Budapest. Based on the seat capacity available, Budapest Airport can expect the strongest traffic performance ever. Experienced travelers, especially young, online bargain-hunters have excellent opportunities during the current pre-booking season as both full service and low cost carriers are offering favorable prices for the summer. In terms traffic growth, Budapest Airport’s average increase of 7.4% this year significantly exceeds the EU average of 4.2%, and is substantially higher than those of regional competitors (Vienna, Prague and Warsaw).

“Budapest Airport broke another record in March, since we’ve never had so many passengers, 662 000 people, using the services of our airline and business partners before,” said Jost Lammers, the CEO of Budapest Airport. “London remains the largest route from Budapest with around 90 000 passengers per month, and we saw great growth levels for Brussels, Rome and Moscow. The peak summer months look equally promising as the seat capacity offered by airlines has increased considerably. This year Budapest Airport offers 85 destinations, served by 37 airlines. We feel that the 330 million EUR, or more than 100 billion HUF invested in the airport over the last 7 years is finally bearing fruit,” he added.
