BRISTOL, UK, 2017-Jul-06 — /Travel PR News/ — Over the weekend (Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 July) members of the Bristol Airport team completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, helping to raise valuable funds for the Airport’s charity of the year, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).
The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland, within 24 hours. The three peaks are Snowdon in Wales (1085m), Scafell Pike in England (978m), and Ben Nevis in Scotland (1345m).
The Bristol Airport team of Adam Thorne, Charlie Wright, Nigel Martin and their driver, James Emanuelli, completed the challenge in 23 hours 51 minutes, raising over £700 for the charity.
Adam Thorne, Retail Operations Manager at Bristol Airport, said:
“It was an absolutely exhausting challenge but worth every footstep. At times the weather on the Three Peaks Challenge was against us, particularly on the top of Scafell Pike, with visibility reducing to around 5m.
Temperatures reached -2 degrees with a wind chill of around -10 degrees so staying warm was particularly difficult. This said, the team spirit was fantastic and knowing that you are raising money for such a worthwhile charity gives the motivation needed to get you to the end.”
Children’s Hospice South West has been voted as the charity of the year on six separate occasions over the last 11 years and the long-standing partnership has raised over £160,000 for the charity.
Janey Hellmen, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser for CHSW said:
“We would like to congratulate the Bristol Airport team for completing a very gruelling challenge in support of CHSW. The fantastic amount of money they have raised will help to make the most of short and precious lives locally.”
