World’s biggest “tweet” takes to the air

  • The tweet ‘The best part of every trip is sharing it with you” will crisscross the skies for two months displayed on an Iberia A340-600
  • More than 3,800 people submitted their ideas in Iberia’s highly original contest on the social networks

Madrid, 2012-08-01 — /travelprnews.com/ — The world’s largest “tweet” took off from Madrid-Barajas airport today en route to Bogotá, Colombia. Iberia’s Airbus A340/600 registered as EC-JBA and named for the composer Joaquín Rodrigo is adorned with a 3-metre-long decal bearing the 140-character legend “#tweetIBERIA:@LoicGuerrero Lo mejor de cada viaje es compartirlo contigo!”, which translates as “The best part of every trip is sharing it with you”.

The tweet by Julia Comino of Majorca won the Spanish airline’s innovative#tweetiberia contest last November aimed at younger followers of Iberia on the social networks. Carolina Martinoli, Iberia’s marketing chief, said “the social networks are a great channel for communicating with our followers, to learn what they want, to give them service and share offers and information about our products with them. The #tweetiberia contest brought us closer to them and made Julia’s dream come true. Iberia now has 230,739 followers on Twitter and 144,261 fans on Facebook.

Julia, an active denizen of the social networks with a diploma in the tourism industry, will see her 140 characters crisscross the skies for two months on the side of the Iberia airliner as “the world’s largest tweet”. Her entry also won her two return tickets to New York.

“I’ll celebrate my second wedding anniversary in New York, which was where we had originally planned to spend our honeymoon, and now we’ll be able to go!”, she said, adding that the winning entry was dedicated to her husband, “my fellow traveller”, as she calls him. “I could have told him a thousand things, but this tweet says it all: I don’t care where I go as long as he’s with me”.

From last October 1 until November 4 Iberia promoted its contest over the social networks, and received more than 3,800 entries, mostly focusing on friendship and love. The three videos made to promote and explain the contest went viral via TwitterFacebook and Google +.

The winner was chosen by a team made up of Iberia personnel and the popular Microsiervos blog. The blogger Wicho announced the winner through videos accessible from the blog.
