Woodland Park Zoo’s newest live cam gives viewers the best seats in the house to its award-winning African Savanna exhibit

SEATTLE, 2014-5-28 — /Travel PR News/ — Woodland Park Zoo’s newest live cam at zoo.org/savannacam gives viewers the best seats in the house to its popular, award-winning African Savanna exhibit, home to giraffe, oryx, zebra, gazelle and ostrich.

Streaming live from the zoo’s African school house, the Savanna Cam pans the north end of the plains exhibit 24/7 with the best viewing times being general zoo hours, 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Get a feel for what you might spot on the savanna with a clip of this giraffe close-up.

Highlights of Woodland Park Zoo’s new Savanna Cam include:

  • Misawa, the zoo’s nearly 1-year-old giraffe calf:
Towering over most of the savanna animals, Misawa is still noticeably smaller than his mother, Olivia, and aunt, Tufani. Catch a glimpse of him greeting other animals on the plains or stretching his long, limber legs in the shade.
  • Feeding behaviors:
For the grassland grazers, meals happen as often as they like. Their home on the spacious savanna doubles as an all-day buffet. Notice they each have unique feeding preferences, making it easy to share their feed with the other residents.
  • Tree-top enrichment:
Viewers may notice the giraffe reaching for a bundle of leaves hanging high in the trees. Keepers place feeding baskets throughout the savanna to give the giraffes a snacking safe-zone of their own.

The mix of species on the savanna hints at the incredible biodiversity of African wildlife. With conservation at the heart of Woodland Park Zoo’s mission, the zoo collaborates with conservation organizations across the world to invest in endangered species before it’s too late. Woodland Park Zoo supports conservation efforts in Africa through its Partners for Wildlife and Wildlife Survival Fund by working to mitigate human conflict with various species that share the African landscape, while collecting wildlife population data to help conservation efforts abroad.
