Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk’s 43rd Annual Clam Chowder Cook-Off Invites Chefs to Compete

(IN SHORT) The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is calling on both professional and amateur chefs to participate in the 43rd annual Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook-Off, a popular fundraiser for the City of Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation Department. The event spans two days, with amateur chefs competing on February 24, and professional chefs on February 25. Teams have until February 12 for early bird registration, which includes additional perks, with a final registration deadline on February 19. The entry fee is $75, and the competition features categories such as Manhattan and Boston Clam Chowders for both amateur and professional chefs, with judges and attendees helping select the winners.

The popular fund-raiser for the City of Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation Department is a two-day event, with amateur chefs competing on Saturday, February 24 and professional chefs on Sunday, February 25.

This year the early bird registration deadline for teams wishing to participate is Monday, February 12. Teams that register during the early bird window will receive two Boardwalk rides wristbands and two event t-shirts. Monday, February 19 is the final day for teams to register. Entry fee is $75.00. “The Clam Chowder Cook-Off is one of the Boardwalk’s most popular events of the year,” said Kris Reyes, Boardwalk spokesperson. “Teams from throughout California put their chowder recipes to the test and our guests love the opportunity to help select the best chowders.”

Local celebrity judges will determine the best Manhattan and Boston Clam Chowders in Amateur and Professional categories. Boardwalk guests who purchase a tasting kit will help select the winners for People’s Choice and Most Tasted Clam Chowder. Prizes include cash, commemorative plaques, and bragging rights. The competition takes place rain or shine along the Boardwalk. All proceeds from the Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook-Off benefit the City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department.
