Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel hosts the international water conference World Water Week in Stockholm, 23 – 28 August

The lack of clean drinking water is a significant problem worldwide. Although our planet consists of 71% water, only 1% is drinkable. About 750 million people have no access to clean drinking water, and every 20 seconds a child dies from waterborne diseases. Experts predict that more than half of world’s population will suffer from water shortage by the year 2025.

BRUSSELS, 2015-8-24 — /Travel PR News/ — From 23rd to 28th August, the international water conference World Water Week takes place in Stockholm, and the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel, Stockholm is the proud host of a number of World Water Week events. The conference is the annual focal point for the globe’s water issues organized by Stockholm International Water Institute.

“As stated in the UN Millennium Development Goal 7C and in the soon to be released Sustainable Development Goal 6, the world is working together to provide safe drinking water and basic sanitation to all. As one of the world’s leading hotel companies and a large water consumer, we want to help more people get access to clean drinking water, and also closely monitor and control our own water consumption”, said Inge Huijbrechts, Vice President Responsible Business for Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, operator of the hotel.

This year is the jubilee year for World Water Week and Stockholm Water Prize, and the event theme is “Water for Development”. More than 3,500 participants, including the Prime Minister Stefan Löfvén are expected to attend the event.

The Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel & Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre is one of the world’s most energy efficient buildings. By combining various state-of-the-art environmental technologies, the hotel reduces carbon emissions and minimizes their environmental impact.

Blu Planet “Walk for Water” event
To mark the World Water Week and Stockholm Water Prize celebration in Stockholm and raise global awareness around water scarcity, all Radisson Blu hotels in Stockholm will organize a “Walk for Water” charity event to support Just A Drop: all visitors and guests of Radisson Blu can participate in a short walk of 10 meters with cans filled with water. For every hundred meters walked, Radisson Blu will donate the money needed to give a child clean drinking water for life.

“We are organizing Walk for Water to let people get a real sense of the hardships involved in carrying water every day in order to survive. We hope that a lot of the World Water Week delegates and Radisson Blu guests will Walk for Water with us”, commented Lena Bergengren, Human Resource Manager at the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel, Stockholm.

Walk for Water will take place on Wednesday, August 26, from 8:00-18:00 at the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel, Radisson Blu Strand Hotel, Radisson Blu Royal Viking Hotel, Radisson Blu Sky City Hotel and Radisson Blu Arlandia Hotel in Stockholm.

About Just a Drop – www.justadrop.org

  • Launched in 1998, Just a Drop is an international water-aid charity with a very simple plan: to give people clean, safe water and to reduce the number of children dying as a result of water-related diseases.
  • Working with local partners, at a grassroots level, we provide clean water and sanitation facilities to some of the poorest communities around the world through the construction of hand-dug and borehole wells, pipelines, hand pumps and latrines and we establish health and sanitation programmes.
  • We operate with a handful (5) of staff and an army of volunteers, many of whom are retired military officers and water engineers with extensive experience on global water development projects.
  • To date, we have carried out over 150 projects across 31 countries, reaching an estimated 1.5 million people from Afghanistan to Zambia.
