(PRESS RELEASE) Sydney, Australia, 2025-Jan-25 — /Travel PR News/ — Qantas has once again secured its position as the most on-time major domestic airline in Australia, continuing a streak of impressive operational performance. The latest government data, released today, reveals that 76.1% of Qantas flights (including Qantas and QantasLink) were on time in 2024, surpassing its closest domestic competitor, which recorded 73.7%. This marks the fifth consecutive year Qantas has led the way in on-time departures, improving on its performance from 2023 (74.1%) and 2022 (69.2%).

Throughout 2024, Qantas achieved higher on-time performance than its major competitor in 10 out of the 12 months. The airline also reported a slight improvement in its cancellation rate, which stood at 3.2% for the year, compared to 3.5% in 2023. Notably, during one of the busiest festive seasons on record, Qantas managed to depart on time 73.1% of the time in December—an increase of 4.9 percentage points from November and 3.6 percentage points higher than December 2023. However, the airline’s December performance still trailed its competitor by 1.3 percentage points. Qantas’ cancellation rate for December was 2.7%, down from 3.4% in November.

Markus Svensson, Qantas Domestic CEO, commented on the airline’s operational achievements: “Timeliness is crucial for our customers, and we are proud to see continued improvements in our performance, thanks to the hard work of our teams. While we’ve made significant strides, there’s still work to be done to reach our ultimate targets. We’re investing in areas like engineering and more efficient boarding processes to boost our reliability further, and collaborating with the broader aviation sector to improve overall industry performance.”

Notes:
The data for Qantas combines both Qantas and QantasLink, providing an accurate reflection of the airline’s overall punctuality. QantasLink operated approximately 60% of the domestic flights within the Qantas network in 2024, serving key routes such as Sydney-Canberra and Melbourne-Canberra, which are crucial to the airline’s performance.

QantasLink also competes with Virgin Australia on several routes not served by Qantas directly, such as Melbourne-Hobart and Brisbane-Adelaide. To ensure the accuracy of the comparison and performance evaluation, it’s important to include QantasLink data, as excluding it would not provide a full picture of Qantas’ overall reliability.
