New Year brings Norwegian Airlines and a new route to Copenhagen from Liverpool John Lennon Airport

2012-12-21 — /travelprnews.com/ — With the New Year just a few days away, staff at Liverpool John Lennon Airport are celebrating the news today that a new airline will be starting from Liverpool next year with a new route to add to the Airport’s list of 60 destinations.

Europe’s third largest low cost airline, Norwegian have announced today that they are to commence a three times weekly service from Liverpool to Copenhagen, starting on 5th April 2013, with a convenient lunchtime departure from Liverpool at 13:55 and one way fares from only £33.

Norwegian is a public low-cost airline noted on the Oslo Stock Exchange and has a route portfolio that stretches across Europe into North Africa and the Middle East. In May 2013 it commences long-haul flights from Scandinavia to the US and Asia.

As one of Europe’s fastest growing low cost airlines, management at JLA are excited that Norwegian have chosen Liverpool as their latest airport to operate from, having worked hard for some time to develop this new business.

The airline has seen significant growth in recent years, carrying almost 16 million passengers in 2011 and currently operates 68 aircraft on 330 routes to 120 destinations. Norwegian’s fleet has an average age of less than 5 year and the company currently has 280 aircraft on order.

Flights between Liverpool and Copenhagen are expected to be popular for both leisure and business passengers adding another exciting city break destination from Liverpool. Copenhagen is an attractive short-break destination famous for its many designs, modern architecture and some of the best Art Museums in Europe. The city is one of Europe’s oldest Royal Capitals with an international and continental feel.

The route is expected to be equally as popular from Copenhagen too, with visitors from the Danish capital taking advantage of direct scheduled flights to Liverpool for the first time. The City has been popular with Scandinavians for some time, visiting in large numbers for leisure breaks and particularly popular with football fans travelling over to watch Liverpool and Everton matches.

Craig Richmond, CEO Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented, “This is tremendous news for the Airport and the region. Norwegian are one of the up and coming low cost airlines in Europe and this is a very positive statement of the progress we are now making to develop the portfolio of airlines and destinations here at Liverpool.”

Both cities have so much to offer visitors and this new route should be equally popular with passengers travelling to both cities.”

Norwegians Communications Manager Åsa Larsson added, “We are very excited about adding Liverpool to our growing route network from Copenhagen. We will be the only operator between the two cities and are looking forward to flying both Danish and English customers inexpensively and comfortable in our brand new aircraft with free WiFi”.

“We enjoy a very good relationship with the Airport and are looking forward to working with the team to make this route a success.”
