Join Woodland Park Zoo for its annual Spring Fling: Enjoy keeper talks and animal feedings

SEATTLE, 2013-03-28 — /travelprnews.com/ — Woodland Park Zoo has your spring break plans covered! Join the zoo for its annual Spring Fling, April 12-14 and 19-21. Enjoy keeper talks and an opportunity to feed the elephants, penguins and Australian birds (additional cost for feedings).

Spring Fling programs are free with zoo admission, except as noted. The Spring Fling schedule is available on the free Woodland Park Zoo mobile app and will be posted at the zoo’s South and West Entrances.

Stop by the Rain Forest Food Pavilion to purchase a Spring Fling Kids Meal and receive a free eco-friendly reusable lunch bag and special treat, while supplies last (limit one per person). Spring Fling Kids Meals include a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a turkey roll, with a side of carrots or Mandarin oranges, and a kid’s apple juice.

Lion Cub Viewing — 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at African Savanna
Visit the zoo’s famous foursome at the lion exhibit of the zoo’s award-winning African Savanna. The four little felines are growing fast, so don’t miss your chance to visit the cubs!

Willawong Station Bird Feeding — 10:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m. at Australasia
This popular walk-through bird feeding experience transports you to the world of the Australian parrot and the Australian grasslands habitat. Willawong Station is a fun opportunity for the whole family to get up close and feed birds in a controlled, safe environment while learning about responsible care for birds both in the wild and at home. The aviary includes approximately 150 free-flying birds, primarily small colorful Australian parrots. Free with zoo admission. Bird sticks: $1 each, cash only.

Lion Cub Keeper Talk — 10:30 a.m. at African Savanna
Caring for four lion cubs is quite a handful! Meet a lion zookeeper and learn more about cub care at Woodland Park Zoo.

Creature Feature — 10:30 a.m. at Zoomazium
Get up close to live, furred, feathered or scaly animals. Meet the star from a puppet story. Practice observation skills to discover who’s in the Mystery Box. Design a play space for a curious creature and watch as it explores. Programs are geared toward toddlers and preschoolers.

Penguin Feeding — 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at penguin exhibit
Here’s your chance to feed our tuxedo-clad Humboldt penguins a handful of tasty fish and experience these endangered birds hand to beak! Cost: $5 for four fish, cash only.

On Thin Ice — 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Northern Trail Tundra Center
How will climate change affect your favorite animals? Answer questions correctly for a turn to break the ice and save a species in this large group activity.

Shake, Rattle & Roar! — 11:30 a.m. at Zoomazium
Toddlers and caregivers are invited to sing, dance, and play instruments to animal and nature-themed music.

Staff and Keeper Talk — 11:30 a.m.
Meet a zookeeper and learn more about animal care at Woodland Park Zoo. Locations vary – see entrance display or website for today’s programs. Featured animal schedule varies, check daily schedules at entrances.

Nature Exchange — 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Zoomazium
Staff at Nature Exchange love to hear about the exciting things children see in nature and at the zoo. Bring in your drawings, photos, research, or cool nature items and earn points to trade for natural history items in our ever-changing collection.

Elephant Poo Papermaking — 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Banda Hut, African Village
Take recycling into your own hands while you learn about elephants! Create new, “upcycled” paper to take home using elephant poo, and learn about these remarkable animals and their habitat.

Raptor Flight Program — 1:00 p.m. at Raptor Center
Here’s your chance to learn more about birds of prey. Keepers will introduce you to the resident raptors while demonstrating their impressive flying and hunting skills.

Elephant Feeding — 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Tropical Asia Thai Village
Feed an elephant and see its wrinkles up close! Cost: $5 per person, cash only; children 2 and under free with paying adult.

Penguin Keeper Talk — 2:00 p.m. at penguin exhibit
Caring for more than 40 penguins is no small task! Meet a Humboldt penguin zookeeper and learn how the zoo cares for its colony of penguins.

Puppet Show — 3:45 p.m. at Zoomazium
Animal puppets tell stories and sing songs. Children are invited up to dance and meet the puppets after the show.
