Hilton Worldwide to rebrand 389-key hotel within Munich Airport under its flagship Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand

MUNICH and McLEAN, Va., 2014-3-4 — /Travel PR News/ — Hilton Worldwide has signed an agreement which will see it rebrand a 389-key hotel within Munich Airport under its flagship Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand. The property is the only hotel with a direct link to the main terminal building and is the latest addition to the company’s expanding portfolio of hotels at European transport hubs.

Under the new agreement, Hilton will manage the upper upscale hotel on behalf of owners Allresto Flughafen München Hotel und Gaststätten GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Flughafen München GmbH, from January 2015. The hotel, which is currently operating as Kempinski Munich Airport Hotel, will undergo a significant renovation and a further 160 rooms will be added to the existing building in 2017. Once the rebrand is complete, the hotel will be known as Hilton Munich Airport, and offer substantial meetings and conference spaces, alongside a Fit & Fly spa area and a range of exciting food & beverage options.

Rob Palleschi, global head of Hilton Hotels & Resorts said, “Munich is one of Europe’s busiest airports, with almost 40 million passengers using the airport each year. Hilton pioneered the airport hotel concept, opening the San Francisco Airport Hilton in 1963, and today, we are proud to carry on Conrad Hilton’s legacy by opening airport hotels that not only serve business travelers with outstanding business and meeting facilities, but also leisure guests with elevated design and sophisticated amenities. We look forward to welcoming Hilton Munich Airport as one of more than 50 airport properties now operating worldwide and the 13th Hilton brand hotel in Germany.”

The current hotel includes 389 guest rooms, including 43 suites, divided across two five-storey wings. The hotel’s modern design incorporates a striking glass façade and large scale indoor lobby area. Guests at Hilton Munich Airport will benefit from a relaxing spa facility, featuring a luxurious 17-metre swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam bath, fitness area, seven treatment rooms and a pool bar.

Dr. Michael Kerkloh, President and CEO of Flughafen München GmbH said: “After an extensive review of all bids, we have chosen the most attractive option and are now looking forward to our partnership with Hilton Worldwide. The commitment of this renowned hotel group, with its long and successful track record of operating numerous hotels at airports all over the world, ensures that the high standard of hospitality at Munich Airport will be upheld in the long term.”

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, Europe & Africa, Hilton Worldwide said, “This agreement paves the way for a Hilton Worldwide hotel at each of Europe’s seven busiest passenger airports, testament to the wide reaching appeal of our brands. Munich is host to a number of international trade shows, including Bauma, BAU, ISPO and Expo Real, in addition to Oktoberfest, all of which attract large numbers of business and leisure travelers to the city and contribute to a diverse demand mix. We are looking forward to welcoming guests to the Hilton Munich Airport in 2015.”
