Airport officials and prospective employers accommodate more than 2,700 job seekers, offer 800 positions.

ATLANTA, 2013-03-19 — /travelprnews.com/ — Thousands of applicants attended an Airport community job fair last week hosted by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in partnership with the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency. Attendees had an opportunity to meet with recruiters from 23 airport area companies and apply for many of the 800 positions offered during the event.

Aviation officials reported 2,732 job seekers showed up, ready to speak with potential employers.

“We were very excited to help connect hiring businesses with qualified applicants,” said Aviation General Manager Louis Miller. “Hartsfield-Jackson and the surrounding communities are extremely diversified employment centers and offer candidates a wide variety of positions from airline pilots to sales managers.”

The event included several community outreach organizations which provide career development assistance to applicants, ranging from interview coaching to resume preparation. UNITE HERE, a North American workers’ union, provided traditional resume template forms to job seekers, and South Fulton Organizing for America, a community mobilization group, registered 54 new Georgia voters.

The first job seekers began arriving at the Georgia International Convention Center at 7 a.m. The ballroom’s doors officially opened at 9 a.m. and closed at 5 p.m.

“For many attendees, this event was more than a job fair,” added Miller. “It was a career enrichment opportunity which allowed them to actively learn about, or build upon, the resources required to help them land and retain that dream job.”
