CVG TSA Pre-Check Program to Begin

Screening to begin for enrolled passengers in September

2012-08-16 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will expand its successful TSA Pre-Check program at VG for passengers this September.

“We are delighted to announce that CVG is the first airport in Ohio and Kentucky that is able provide this significant service for our frequent travelers,” says James Huff, Chairman, Kenton County Airport Board.

TSA Pre-Check program is a pre-screening process for selected frequent fliers or for those who are enrolled in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Global Entry program.  These passengers can move quickly through a designated security checkpoint lane at CVG without having to remove shoes, jackets, belts, laptops, and liquids from carry-on baggage.

“CVG welcomes the TSA Pre-Check program as another benefit for our passengers.  This program expedites the screening process for many travelers without compromising safety,” says Candace McGraw, Chief Executive Officer at CVG.

For more information about the TSA Pre-Check Program, please visit www.tsa.gov.

Participants interested in joining the program can enroll in CBP’s Global Entry Program. Global Entry is a CBP program that allows pre-approved, low-risk travelers, expedited entry into the United States. Participation in TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry involves an online application (20-40 minutes) and an interview with CBP (15 minutes). Individuals may apply at www.globalentry.gov <http://www.globalentry.gov> .  The cost of the application process is approximately $100 dollars and is valid for 5 years.

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding TSA Pre-Check

What are the benefits of the TSA Pre-Check Program?

Passengers may no longer have to remove the following items:

• Shoes
• 3-1-1 compliant liquids from bag*
• Laptop from bag
• Jacket
• Belt

*3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume); 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger.

Who is eligible for the TSA Pre-Check Program?

Participating airlines will permit some of their frequent flyers, based on TSA criteria, to opt-in through the airline’s system. Participating airlines have contacted eligible frequent flyers with an invitation to opt-in. Once the passenger opts in, the airline identifies the individual as a participant when submitting the passenger reservation information to TSA’s Secure Flight system.

Current members of U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Global Entry, SENTRI or NEXUS programs are already eligible to participate in the TSA Pre-Check concept if they are flying on a participating airline at a participating airport. Those passengers need to place their PASS ID in the ‘Known Traveler Number’ field while booking their reservation. Interested passengers who are not eligible through their airline and are not already a member of a CBP Trusted Traveler program may still be able to opt-in to TSA Pre-Check by applying for one of the CBP eligible programs.

If I am not invited by an airline to participate then how do I enroll?

Participants interested in joining the program can enroll in CBP’s Global Entry Program. Global Entry is a CBP program that allows pre-approved, low-risk travelers, expedited entry into the United States. Participation in TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry involves an online application (20-40 minutes) and an interview with CBP (15 minutes). The cost of the application process is approximately $100 dollars and is valid for 5 years.

If I enroll through the Global Entry program how will the system know I am eligible for Pre-Check screening?

Global Entry members who want to participate in TSA Pre-Check will need to provide their nine-digit Trusted Traveler member number (PASS ID) when booking travel. The PASS ID can be found on the back of your Global Entry membership card (in the top left corner of your card) or in your Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) account.

Will I be able to go through the TSA Pre-Check line at all airports?

Only airports and airline partners at those airports who have qualified for the TSA Pre-Check program will be able to offer this type of expedited screening.

When will I know if I have been selected for the TSA Pre-Check line?
The information will be embedded in the barcode of your boarding pass. TSA will read the barcode at designated checkpoints and you will be referred to the designated screening lane.

TSA will always incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.

Will others who are traveling with me also be selected for the TSA Pre-Check line if I pulled into the expedited line?
Only passengers 12 and under are eligible for TSA Pre-Check expedited screening benefits with you as part of TSA’s modified screening procedures for this age group. Other travel companions will have to be enrolled in the TSA Pre-Check program already.
