Covered play paradise with panoramic view: Playport Dresden opens at the airport on 1 September

2012-08-29 — /travelprnews.com/ — Dresden Airport is breathing new life into its former Terminal 2: Playport Dresden, Saxony’s most exciting indoor playground, opens there on 1 September. Operators Anke and Mario Otto have created around 2000 square metres of brightly coloured, air-conditioned adventure playground fun with a panoramic view of planes taking off and landing. Attractions include a climbing castle, children’s skittles, table football, a football pitch, a spaceship gateway, seven beautifully decorated party rooms, and a stage. Refreshments and meals are available in the Panorama Café. Parents can relax in a lounge with Internet access, hot and cold drinks and sports on TV. The playground will be open in all weathers from 10:00 to 19:00.

The themed birthday rooms can be booked online at www.playport-dresden.de. Choose between the Football Pitch, Haunted Castle, Horse Ranch, Pirate Bay, Princess Suite, Magic Room and Circus Tent. Every room comes with a matching themed birthday cake. The play facilities are suitable for all age groups. “Besides the climbing castle, there is also a soft play area for young children and Wii and X-Box consoles for older kids. And it goes without saying that our facilities are suitable for disabled children,” says operator Mario Otto.

The playground’s diary is packed full of exciting events. To kick off there is a Zuckertütenfest (sweet bag festival) on 1 September (already sold out). Coming soon are children’s fashion shows, face painting, children’s ballet, karate shows, craft workshops, singing sessions and a Halloween party. Starting on 1 December, Santa Claus will be opening an advent calendar door every day in the run-up to Christmas. The star guest at many of these events will be the playground mascot Porti – a green alien. All the dates can be found online at www.playport-dresden.de.

Admission for children aged 4 and above is €6.90 (age 1-3: €4.90, up to 1 year: free) and €3.90 for adults (aged 18 and above). Admission for disabled visitors is €2 (up to 50% disability) or free (from 50% disability). Discounts are available for school and kindergarten groups (prior booking required). Grandparents are admitted free on Grandparents Day (Mondays). Every Wednesday is Happy Hour Day, when children get in for half price. There is also a Happy Hour every day at 18:00.

Why not combine a trip to Playport Dresden with an exciting guided tour of the airport (bookings: tel. +49 351 881 3300, or +49 351 881 3360 at weekends), or stop off at Dresden’s biggest travel centre in the terminal. The travel agencies there are open from 10 am to 6 pm daily including Sundays and public holidays.

Playport Dresden is easily accessible by car, rail and bus. Visitors coming by car can park in car park P4A above the airport administration building (follow the signs to the indoor playground), where parking costs €3 (flat rate). For those arriving by public transport, Playport Dresden is just a few minutes’ walk from the Dresden Airport S-Bahn station in the terminal (line S2) and the Flughafen West bus stop (routes 77 and 80).
