Chicago’s Renowned Union League Club Tours O’Hare

CHICAGO, 2012-08-24 — /travelprnews.com/ — Earlier today, the  Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) hosted 13 members of the  Union League Club of Chicago (ULCC) at  O’Hare International Airport. The distinguished civic group included members from the League’s  Public Affairs Committee and its Transportation Subcommittee.

The ULCC engages a wide range of public policy issues through its Public Affairs Committee and various subcommittees. The historic private club was established in 1879 to promote honesty and efficiency in government, and to support cultural institutions and the beautification of Chicago.CDA Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino and executive staff met with the group during its visit, which included an airfield tour to view construction activity on the O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP). During the tour, ULCC members got an up-close look at future Runway 10C-28C, which is scheduled to open in just over a year from now. They also got a bird’s eye view of O’Hare’s south airfield where they could see the newly realigned Union Pacific Railroad track, current construction on theIrving Park Road realignment, and site preparation for O’Hare’s southernmost runway set to open in 2015. The tour wrapped up with a visit to the O’Hare Urban Garden in Terminal 3.

The ULCC Transportation Subcommittee monitors progress of O’Hare’s modernization, as well as other major planned or proposed transportation projects in the Chicago region. The subcommittee played a leading role in advocating modernization of the aging rail and road infrastructure in the Chicago region, culminating in the “CREATE” (Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency) initiative, a joint state, federal, and local program to improve freight rail infrastructure and reduce freight rail congestion.
