New global partners come onboard bringing the total to 15 as programme expands with tiered structure
(IN SHORT) Cathay Pacific’s Corporate Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Programme has grown significantly in 2024, now including 15 global partners, with new additions such as DB Schenker and Kuehne+Nagel. The programme’s expanded tiered structure allows companies to join based on their SAF needs, contributing to a record commitment of 2,650 tonnes of SAF this year. This pledge equates to an estimated reduction of 8,060 tonnes of carbon emissions, aligning with Cathay’s goal of 10% SAF usage by 2030 and supporting its long-term ambition for net-zero emissions by 2050.
(PRESS RELEASE) Hong Kong, China, 2024-Nov-4 — /Travel PR News/ — Cathay Pacific has expanded its Corporate Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Programme, welcoming five new global partners this year and achieving significant growth with a new tiered structure that allows companies to participate based on their specific SAF needs. Notable new partners include DB Schenker and Kuehne+Nagel as Diamond partners, EQT as a Gold partner, and Julius Baer and Lenton Group as Silver partners, bringing the programme’s total to 15 partners. This growing coalition highlights an increasing commitment from businesses to reduce carbon emissions through sustainable fuel solutions.
In 2024, programme partners have collectively pledged to use 2,650 tonnes of SAF, equivalent to reducing around 8,060 tonnes of carbon emissions—triple last year’s reduction. The initiative aligns with Cathay’s ambitious target of using 10% SAF by 2030, reinforcing its role in pioneering the aviation industry’s decarbonization. SAF, which can reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by over 80%, remains central to Cathay’s sustainability strategy, alongside fleet modernization and carbon offsets to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Cathay Group CEO Ronald Lam emphasized the programme’s role in empowering customers to reduce their air travel and airfreight emissions, underscoring SAF’s critical role in cutting carbon before alternative energy-powered aircraft become widely available.
