Canadian Tourism Commission: Tourism industry stands tall in Canada’s social-media conversations

Award-winning apps, fresh bloggers and a new provincial hub are the stars of 2013’s first round-up.

2013-02-14 — /travelprnews.com/ — Despite all the white noise on social networks, Canada’s tourism industry is a prominent voice in the conversations, as the latest newsgathering demonstrates.

The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) sits alongside our Canadian industry partners on many social networks. So if you think your Canadian tourism business or destination has recently put out some great initiatives, or you know a one that has, then tell CTC News all about it. Details at the bottom tell you how.

  • The Discover Ontario mobile app has garnered industry kudos to go along with its many happy users. At the recent Interactive Media Awards it was one of only three of the 154 entries in the travel/tourism class to win “Best in Class.” The awards recognize the premier standards in web design and development. The Discover Ontario app gives travellers tips on Ontario attractions, dining spots, accommodation and travel experiences, as well as connectivity with other social networks. Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation is promising enhanced features in the spring, so stay tuned.
  • Travel Alberta came away from the 56th annual Adrian Awards last month in New York City, NY, with the advertising Platinum award for its “Remember to Breathe” video. The video, which registered more than a million YouTube views with six months of launching, also snapped up the Gold award in the consumer video category. In case you somehow missed it the first time, here’s the award-winning video:

  • Meet Les, Carla and Alex, aka the team behind the scene for Tourism Saskatchewan’s new Tumblr blog. The trio gather articles and images from across the Internet, as well as their own words, images and text from travels around the province, to give a true flavour of Saskatchewan. They invite readers to share their stories using the hashtag #ExploreSask.
  • Looking for the latest word on Newfoundland and Labrador? Look no further than Chatter, the online tourism hub for Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube activity. Here users can keep their finger on the pulse of the latest news while browsing spectacular images and videos. There’s also a chance to upload users’ own material.
