2013-03-15 — /travelprnews.com/ — The organisation behind one of Bristol’s oldest twinning links has welcomed the impact a new flight from the region’s airport will have on its activities.
The Bristol-Hannover Council was founded in 1947 and remains active in promoting links between the two cities. The Council has welcomed news that bmi regional will operate six flights a week from Bristol Airport to Hannover, and believes this direct service will encourage even stronger relations by making it more convenient for families, groups and businesses from Bristol to visit the German city, and vice versa.
John Veale, the Council’s longest serving member, said:
“Since the early days there have been regular exchanges of schoolchildren, students, choirs, theatre groups and sports teams but, without a direct air link, travel arrangements have been inconvenient and expensive.
“This service will benefit the many English and German groups travelling between the two cities, particularly in the run up to the 300th anniversary of the House of Hanover’s accession to the British throne.”
Shaun Browne, Aviation Director at Bristol Airport, said:
“We are delighted that a direct route to Hannover is now available from Bristol Airport, alongside the existing service to another twin city, Bordeaux. As well as making it much easier to maintain these historic links, the new bmi regional service will also make doing business in this part of Germany possible for many local companies by cutting out the time and cost of travelling to airports in the South East in order to fly. We also expect the flight to be popular with Forces personnel and their families based in the nearby North Rhine-Westphalia region.”

Bristol-Hannover Council organises an exchange every year, with the venue alternating between the two cities. A group from Hannover is due to visit Bristol later this year, with special celebrations planned in 2014 – the 300th anniversary of the accession of the Hanoverian, George I, to the English throne.
bmi regional operates an all jet fleet and has been rated the UK’s most punctual airline for seven years in succession. Complimentary food and drinks are served onboard, and passengers receive a free 20kg hold baggage allowance.
