Banyan Tree Mayakoba and Rosewood Mayakoba to highlight culinary expertise of Manhattan-based chefs Bryce Shuman and P.J. Calapa this Memorial Day weekend

Riviera Maya, Mexico, 2019-Apr-29 — /Travel PR News/ — This Memorial Day weekend, Wine & Food Festival is partnering with Banyan Tree Mayakoba and Rosewood Mayakoba for its inaugural event “A Taste of New York in Mayakoba”, highlighting the culinary expertise of Manhattan-based chefs Bryce Shuman and P.J. Calapa.  Alongside Banyan Tree’s Executive Chef Alfonso de la Dehesa and Rosewood Mayakoba’s Director of Culinary Operations Chef Juan Pablo Loza, North meets South to provide two distinct gastronomic experiences at each resort for a memorable, food-inspired weekend.

On Friday, May 24 at Banyan Tree’s Oriente restaurant, Chef Shuman will cook alongside Chef Dehesa for a night of culinary delights surrounded by the resort’s serene lagoon and natural setting.  Chef Shuman began his career with Wolfgang Puck before becoming chef de cuisine at the three Michelin Star restaurant Eleven Madison Park under the helm of Chef Daniel Humm.  He branched off to begin his own venture with the opening of Betony, which was awarded one Michelin Star and a three-star review by The New York Times, and also earned Chef Shuman the title of Best New Chef in 2015 by FOOD & WINE.

On Saturday, May 25, Rosewood Mayakoba will welcome Chef P.J. Calapa, owner of the Southern Italian inspired Scampi in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, for a memorable culinary evening at Casa del Lago, featuring Italian inspired fare combined with Mexican flavors.  Honing his skills at some of the top New York restaurants including Bouley in TriBeca, Eleven Madison Park and Nobu 57, Calapa joined Chef Michael White’s Altamarea Group to help launch Ai Fiori, which earned him a 2013 StarChefs Rising Stars Award, a three-star review from The New York Times and a Michelin Star.
