First of its kind program aimed at employee wellness
SAN FRANCISCO, 2012-07-23 — /travelprnews.com/ — The San Francisco Airport Commission has authorized the San Francisco International Airport to implement a pilot project to create and evaluate a bicycle sharing system to be used by Airport Commission employees. Under the Airport Commission’s direction, the Airport will contract with Social Bicycles, Inc. to implement the project in accordance with the Administrative Code of the City and County of San Francisco.
“For the past several years, San Francisco International Airport has been actively promoting wellness, as well as environmental stewardship among its employees,” said Airport Director John L. Martin. “With the creation of this pilot program, SFO will combine the two efforts and provide employees not only with an environmentally-friendly mode of transportation around the Airport, but also one that improves the physical well-being of those who participate.”
The proposed employee Bicycle-Sharing System will be owned by the Airport and available, free of charge, to all Airport Commission employees. Employees will be required to register and take a bicycle safety class before they can participate in the program. Bicycle-Share System Stations will be located throughout the Airport’s campus, which will facilitate easy access and encourage system use. All bicycles will have GPS, allowing them to be tracked in real-time, and the system’s program will also calculate calories burned and carbon saved. Statistical data from the system’s software, as well as information from user surveys, will be collected and analyzed to evaluate the success of the pilot program and assist Airport officials in determining the next steps as the Airport moves toward the creation of permanent Bicycle-Sharing Program. The total cost of the pilot program shall not exceed $69,478.
