Aberdeen, UK, 2018-Dec-03 — /Travel PR News/ — The new service will be free for customers using the car parks, with four units located on the first floor of the Short Stay zone and two further points in the Priority area.
Podpoint, a market leading and award-winning provider of electric charging points, has installed the points at the airport.
Sales of electric vehicles hit a record high earlier this year, with electric or hybrid cars accounting for one in every 12 new cars purchased in the UK. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric cars made up 8% of the overall market.
Passengers wishing to use the electric car charging points can turn up at the Short Stay or Priority car parks and pay the gate rate for the duration of their stay.
Alternatively, car owners can pre-book parking online at least two hours in advance of arrival at the airport.
Jemma Forrest, Aberdeen International Airport’s Travel Services Manager said: “It’s great to offer this new service to our customers for the first time. The process couldn’t be simpler. Once drivers have located a space, they need to plug in their car and use the Pod Point app on Apple or Android to access unlimited charging.
“At the airport we’ve been working hard to improve our carbon footprint and we look forward to seeing the requirement for electric car charging points grow.”
Aberdeen International Airport is currently undergoing a £20 million terminal transformation project, earmarked for completion in autumn 2019.
