MIAMI, 2014-10-20 — /Travel PR News/ — YouRoam launched its mobile application in both the Google Play and Apple App Store in hopes of ending roaming fees forever.
Post-Launch, YouRoam was invited to demo at The Next Web Conference in NYC on December 10, 2014 as part of its Boost program, which is designed to accelerate the growth of early-stage startups from around the world.
After being frustrated while traveling abroad by the difficulty of staying connected, YouRoam’s founders looked at their options: pay the $1-3 per minute charged by their carriers or use the available mobile apps which typically involve app-to-app or one-way calling. Both of these options were insufficient for most travelers’ needs.
YouRoam not only provides an inexpensive alternative to the rates being charged by travelers’ mobile carriers but, unlike other mobile applications, YouRoam allows you to make and receive calls worldwide on your own cell phone number allowing users to receive calls from anyone and to make calls to anyone – even if they do not have the app.
Exorbitant roaming fees have recently made international headlines as governments across the world have intervened to cut these costs, including the European Union, Rwanda and Kenya. But roaming fees still exist and given that they make up 7-8% of revenue for mobile operators, they are unlikely to end any time soon.
As avid travelers, YouRoam’s founders conceived and developed YouRoam to end the exorbitant roaming fees being charged by mobile carriers stating, “YouRoam will do to voice calling what WhatsApp did to text messaging.”
