Maldives to host World Travel Awards 2013 – Indian Ocean category
2013-04-23 — /travelprnews.com/ — “Maldives…the sunny side of life” is proud to be hosting the World Travel Awards Regional Category on 12th May 2013 at Paradise Island Resort and Spa. This is the first time a travel event of such high calibre is being hosted in the Maldives. It is an honour to be hosting such a prestigious event especially in a significant year to the tourism industry of the Maldives as it celebrates the 40th year of tourism.
Industry leaders will meet in the Maldives to witness the presentation of awards in 58 categories amidst a glamorous gala ceremony under the stars and on the white sandy beach of Paradise Island Resort & Spa; also a prestigious opportunity to welcome the top industry leaders in the Maldives.
The World Travel Awards serves to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry. Since its establishment in 1993, the World Travel Awards has become the Oscar equivalent of the global tourism industry.
Hosting of the World Travel Awards in the Maldives would yet raise the profile of the destination. It will also act as an opportunity to diversify the product segments to develop event based tourism in the Maldives, as Hon. Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture states; “We are proud to be hosting World Travel Awards in Maldives… the Sunny Side of Life. It’s an assurance to the travel trade that Maldives is ready for event based tourism in a luxury and private setting”
Furthermore, Maldives has been nominated for 30 different categories this year [Annexe 1 & 2] and anticipates to keep shining as a world class destination by winning important categories. Previously, Maldives was the proud winner of numerous categories at the World Travel Awards in 2012 [Annexe 3]. Such distinguished endorsements of the Maldivian tourism product by the World Travel Awards highlight the uniqueness of the Maldives as a destination and indicate the visitors’ love and confidence towards Maldives further generating investor confidence.
The event is being coordinated in the Maldives by the support of the tourism industry of the Maldives. The partners of the World Travel Awards Regional Category are Paradise Island Resort & Spa, Let’s Go Maldives and Azidon together with the MMPRC.
