Woodland Park Zoo teams up with Umpqua Bank to Name the zoo’s new Asian small-clawed otters

SEATTLE, 2013-05-22 — /travelprnews.com/ —  Woodland Park Zoo is teaming up with Umpqua Bank to name the zoo’s new playful pair of Asian small-clawed otters, residents of the zoo’s new Bamboo Forest Reserve exhibit. The two contest winners will each take home a $100 Umpqua Bank savings account, a ZooParent adoption, and a visit from an Umpqua Bank ice cream truck for 100 friends!

Woodland Park Zoo and Umpqua Bank have narrowed down the name search for the otters, a 7-year-old male and 3-year-old female. Qualified entries must be provided in the Malay language as a tribute to the otters’ native southern and southeastern Asia range.

Submissions will be accepted May 24-June 15 and the winning names will be chosen by a panel of zoo judges.

Help name the zoo’s new otters with three simple steps:
1. Look up words or names in the Malay language. Choose two names, one for him and one for her.
2. Pick up a ballot at any Seattle area Umpqua Bank store, clip out a ballot from select issues of The Seattle Times, or submit your otter names online at zoo.org/nametheotters.
3. Wait until the final two names are chosen to find out if you won one of two grand prizes!

Contest opens Friday, May 24 at 12:00 a.m. PST and closes Saturday, June 15 at 5:00 p.m. PST. Two grand prize winners will each receive a $100 Umpqua Bank savings account*, an Asian small-clawed otter ZooParent adoption, and a visit from an Umpqua Bank ice cream truck for a party of up to 100 people. For official rules and regulations, visit zoo.org/nametheotters.

The Asian small-clawed otters debuted May 4 during the grand opening celebration of the zoo’s new Bamboo Forest Reserve exhibit. The otters’ new home features a clever, energysaving pool, hidden rocky dens and hilly wetlands for the otters to explore. The first phase of Bamboo Forest Reserve also features a tropical aviary and a kids’ nature play area, all bringing to life the sounds, smells and sights of the Asian tropical forest.

The zoo uses innovative, hands-on education techniques to spread awareness of Asian forest conservation issues facing wild populations of small-clawed otters and encourages visitors to help save the wild animals and habitats we all love. Take action locally! Visit the Bamboo Forest Reserve during program hours to learn how you can join Woodland Park Zoo in conserving Asian forests by taking action now.
