The development strengthens Venice’s international connectivity while supporting tourism and economic growth in North-East Italy. The investment also forms part of Wizz Air’s broader strategy to expand its presence in Italy, where the airline plans to operate 35 aircraft and offer 27 million seats in 2026.

(PRESS RELEASE) VENICE, Italy, 2026-Mar-12 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air, one of the largest airlines operating in Italy, has announced a further expansion of its operations at Venice Marco Polo Airport, strengthening its partnership with SAVE Group and reinforcing the airport’s role within the airline’s European network. As part of the development, a fourth Airbus A321neo aircraft will be based in Venice starting September 2026, increasing capacity and creating new employment opportunities in the region.

The additional aircraft will enable Wizz Air to significantly expand its operations at the airport, adding approximately 500,000 new seats to the airline’s offering. The expansion will also generate 40 new direct jobs, adding to the more than 120 Wizz Air employees currently based in Venice, while supporting over 350 indirect jobs across the local aviation and tourism supply chain.

The new investment also includes the introduction of five additional routes, strengthening Venice’s international connectivity and expanding travel options for passengers in North-East Italy. Flights to Bilbao and Malaga will begin on 14 September 2026, followed by the launch of routes to Alicante and Seville on 15 September 2026. A new domestic service between Venice and Naples will start on 1 December 2026, improving links between Northern and Southern Italy.

The newly announced routes will operate with the following frequencies:

  • Venice – Naples: 11 weekly flights, operating daily from December 1, 2026

  • Venice – Bilbao: four weekly flights, operating Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday in summer, and Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday in winter

  • Venice – Malaga: four weekly flights on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday

  • Venice – Alicante: three weekly flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

  • Venice – Seville: three weekly flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

Tickets for the new services are already available through the Wizz Air website and mobile application, with introductory fares starting from €14.99.

With the addition of the new routes, Wizz Air will operate 26 routes from Venice to 16 countries, further strengthening the airport’s role as an international gateway. From Venice Marco Polo Airport, passengers can currently travel to destinations across Europe and the Mediterranean, including Yerevan, Larnaca, Sharm El Sheikh, Tallinn, Bordeaux, Kutaisi, Athens, Budapest, Kraków, Warsaw, Craiova, Iași, London Luton, Tel Aviv, Skopje and Chișinău, as well as Spanish destinations such as Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia. Domestic services also connect Venice with Catania and Palermo.

Since launching operations in Venice on 1 June 2011 with its inaugural flight to Bucharest, Wizz Air has transported more than 3.8 million passengers to and from the city. Prior to the latest expansion announcement, the airline had already planned to offer approximately 2.5 million seats in 2026 from Venice.

Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said the decision to add a fourth aircraft reflects the strong partnership the airline has built with Venice Marco Polo Airport and the wider Veneto region. He highlighted the region’s economic dynamism and growing international visibility, including global attention linked to the upcoming Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic Games, noting that the airline is committed to supporting tourism, economic development and regional connectivity through expanded services and competitive fares.

Camillo Bozzolo, Aviation Development Director at SAVE Group, said the investment represents another milestone in the growth of Wizz Air’s Venice base. He emphasized that the introduction of five new routes—particularly those serving the Spanish market—will enhance international connectivity for travellers in North-East Italy while strengthening inbound tourism to Venice and the Veneto region.

The Venice expansion forms part of Wizz Air’s broader growth strategy in Italy. In 2026, the airline plans to offer 27 million seats across the country, operating a fleet of 35 aircraft based at its six Italian bases in Catania, Naples, Rome, Palermo, Milan and Venice. Overall, Wizz Air’s Italian network includes 284 routes connecting 33 countries, further reinforcing the airline’s role as a major contributor to Italy’s international aviation connectivity.
