Wizz Air started its operations from Sibiu International Airport in 2014 and since then has continuously invested in its ever-growing network, always looking to bring more low-fare travel opportunities for its customers. In August 2016, Sibiu became WIZZ’s 7 base in Romania, an investment of more than $ 100 million, with one modern Airbus A320, creating 36 new local jobs with the airline and expanding its low-fare network to 6 destinations to 4 countries. By increasing its operations from Sibiu, WIZZ carried, over 255,000 passengers in the past 12 months, showing an increase of 168% compared to the same period in the previous year. The airline’s continuous investment in Romanian regions is bringing remarkable benefits to the local communities, as in the first half year of 2017, Sibiu county was ranked in the top 4 best performing counties from Romania to attract foreign tourists, with 6,7% increase compared to the same period last year.
Wizz Air’s fast-growing Romanian operations will continue to stimulate the local economy as it has done for the past 10 years, bringing increased employment in Romania’s aviation, tourism and hospitality sectors and supporting more than 5,700 jobs this year in associated industries throughout the country. In 2018, WIZZ offers in total more than 9.2 million seats on sale from 10 Romanian airports on 142 routes to 20 countries. Already the largest airline in Romania, Wizz Air will have 24 aircraft based in Romania next year, including 7 of the ultra-efficient brand new 230-seat Airbus A321, employing over 800 customer-oriented local crew.
