UK’s largest airline easyJet celebrated 19 years of making travel easy and affordable

Happy Birthday easyJet

LONDON, 2014-11-11 — /Travel PR News/ — Today (10 Nov 2014) easyJet, the UK’s largest airline, celebrates 19 years of making travel easy and affordable.

On this day in 1995 the inaugural easyJet flight, carrying 120 excited passengers, departed from London Luton for Glasgow Airport with the strap line ‘making flying as affordable as a pair of jeans – £29 one way’.

Over the past 19 years the airline has remained true to its roots reducing the cost of flying further and has transformed itself from a brightly coloured but unknown airline with two routes into one of Europe’s best-known brands. The airline has revolutionised travel over that time by introducing new destinations that previously were either inaccessible or unaffordable and flying to the main airports at far more reasonable fares.

Last week easyjet launched for sale 26 new routes and now has 226 aircraft flying to 135 airports on over 720 routes in 32 countries. The airline now carries 65 million passengers a year.

Carolyn McCall, easyJet’s Chief Executive commented:
“easyJet has come a long way since that first flight in 1995 to become the UK’s largest airline and this is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the entire easyJet team. It has been an incredible journey and we’re really proud of what easyJet has achieved over the last 19 years.
“Our innovations and commitment to customer service will continue as will the commitment to deliver the best quality service to our customers. We look forward to continuing to provide a fantastic service along with low fares for many more years to come”
