2012-10-25 — /travelprnews.com/ — Turner prize nominated artist Tracey Emin has created an exclusive collection of monoprints inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, exclusively for British Airways customers to enjoy in its Galleries lounge in Heathrow Terminal 5.
Rendered in her trademark style, the monoprints feature birds in a series of images, which are titled ‘Don’t be jelous of the moon’ (sic), ‘Feeling safe’ and ‘I see the world’.
Taking inspiration from the Games, Tracey who often features birds in her work, uses the doves to convey the message of freedom. Birds also feature in her official Paralympic Games poster unveiled earlier this year.
Emin, who was a mentor on the BA Great Britons programme which supported British talent in the run up to the Games, said: “These birds represent freedom and peace, and there’s a natural connection with the London Games. There’s a nod to the airline in one of the prints with the Dove in flight – showing its vantage point.
“There’s a kind of conversation between the images that make sense in relation to each other. I hope people will enjoy them and remember this special time in our history.”
The print ‘Don’t be jelous of the moon’ is a classic drawing of two doves entwined on a branch, while ‘Feeling safe’ is an evolution of the image with a third bird watching over them. The final print entitled ‘I see the world’ shows the Dove in flight.
Although this is the first time Emin’s work will be displayed in Terminal 5, she has previously donated two of her works to British Airways’ lounge in Istanbul to help raise funds for the Earthquake appeal.

The airline’s art collection, includes prominent British artists such as; Damien Hirst, Bridget Riley, Peter Doig, Anish Kapoor and Chris Ofili. It also includes award-winning works such as Tjep Studio for Droog – which took the prestigious Dutch Design Award of the Year in 2004, and Troika’s Cloud, which has won many accolades including the D&AD Yellow Pencil Award in 2009 at the Design Museum.
