Tourism Authority of Thailand rolls out number of strategic activities at World Travel Market (WTM), 2-4 Nov, 2015

LONDON, 2015-11-4 — /Travel PR News/ — The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has rolled out a number of strategic activities to promote the good image of the kingdom as a top tourist destination at one of the most important travel trade events in Europe, the World Travel Market (WTM), from 2-4 November, 2015.

TAT first attended the WTM in 1980, making this the 35th year of participation. Traditionally, TAT uses the show as an important platform to launch the country’s tourism marketing campaign for the incoming year. This year TAT is launching the new Amazing Thailand logo, which incorporates the attraction and appeal of the most famous characteristic of Thailand – The Smile.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor said, “One of Thailand’s most important events for this year WTM will be the launch of the new “Amazing Thailand” logo, which features the famous Thai Smile. Thailand is also known as the Land of Smiles, and the new logo builds on that in order to strengthen the bonds of friendship, fun and happiness.”

Ornate details of the traditional Thai Kanok pattern have been adjusted to create the ‘Smile’ symbol. The letter ‘A’ in the word ‘Thailand’ has been re-designed to look like a pair of smiling eyes, which, when accompanied with the ‘Smile’ symbol, perfectly form a person’s smiling face. The colour schemes have also been specifically chosen to underpin the image of softness.

The Thailand delegation comprising 51 exhibitors made up of hotels, tour operators and travel-related agencies are presenting a plethora of Thai tourism products and services at the uniquely-designed Thai Pavilion bearing the concept of “Discover Amazing Stories” is alive with hi-tech and hi-touch activities.

There is a Thai silk weaving demonstration from Ban Phon Phrae Wa Silk Weaving Village, Kalasin province. A workshop is organised to allow attendees to try their hand at making silk keychains. A new book named “The Routes of Thai Threads”, tracing the growth of the famous Thai silk and fabrics will also be distributed.

One highlight in support of the new logo is the “I-smile” activity to show the development of TAT’s world-class information technology management tools to promote tourism. Visitors will be able to check out the entire website, mobile application, as well as events and online campaigns. Visitors who sign up for the campaigns and activities will receive exotic prizes of high quality Thai fabric and a bag tag with their photos emblazoned by the new Amazing Thailand logo.

TAT has also organised a prominent “London Bus Wrapping” with the new Amazing Thailand smile logo display that is being prominently positioned in front of the Excel Hall. The bus offers a chance for visitors to enjoy a free cup of Doi Chang coffee, and a free Thai massage.

Other important activities to be organised by TAT are a Thailand Networking Lunch, the annual “Thailand Green Excellence Awards” ceremony, and the “Amazing Thailand: Royal Gala Dinner Reception” on 2 November, 2015. On the following day, H.E. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, will participate in the 2015 UNWTO/WTM Ministers’ Summit on the theme of Destination Branding: New Challenges in a Changing Market.

Mr. Yuthasak said, “Our TAT corporate team and the TAT London Office have worked very hard to ensure that Thailand stands out among the hundreds of exhibitors at this year’s WTM. Personally, since this is my first time attending the event, I am very much looking forward to meeting the team as well as our long-standing partners and friends in the UK, and becoming better acquainted with the phenomenal changes taking place in the global travel and tourism industry.”
