THE CARLYLE, A ROSEWOOD HOTEL ANNOUNCES NEW LITERARY LUNCHEON SERIES, “IN CONVERSATION AT THE CARLYLE”

Each In Conversation at The Carlyle event includes a three-course lunch followed by an intimate chat with each prestigious author and a signed personalized copy of their latest book.

On Monday, April 1, Dr. Maya Angelou will be the featured author of the first In Conversation event this spring. The second will be hosted by Pulitzer Prize winner, Anna Quindlen, on Tuesday, May 7, followed by bestselling author Curtis Sittenfeld on Thursday, June 27.

The three-course luncheon will begin in The Carlyle Restaurant at 12:30 p.m. and guests will then move into the famed Café Carlyle for the intimate discussion with each author. The cost per event is $125 per person (inclusive of tax and gratuity), including the prix fix menu, one glass of wine and a signed personalized copy of the book. Poet, writer, performer, teacher, and director Maya Angelou was raised in Stamps, Arkansas, and then moved to San Francisco. In addition to her groundbreaking autobiographies, beginning with I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, she has also written two cookbooks, five poetry collections, including I Shall Not Be Moved, three books of essays, including Letter to My Daughter, and six long-form poems, including “Mother” and “On the Pulse of Morning,” read at the inauguration of President William Jefferson Clinton. Her upcoming memoir Mom & Me & Mom will be published on April 2, and tells the story of her relationship with her mother.

Anna Quindlen is a novelist and journalist whose work has appeared on fiction, nonfiction and self-help bestseller lists. Her book A Short Guide to a Happy Life has sold more than a million copies. While a columnist at the New York Times she won the Pulitzer Prize and published two collections, Living Out Loud and Thinking Out Loud. Her Newsweek columns were collected in Loud and Clear. She is the author of six novels, Object Lessons, One True Thing, Black and Blue, Blessings, Rise and Shine, and Every Last One. Her memoir—Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake—was a #1 New York Times bestseller in hardcover, and will be published in paperback on April 23.

Curtis Sittenfeld is the bestselling author of the novels Prep, The Man of My Dreams, and American Wife, which have been translated into twenty-five languages. Her forthcoming novel, Sisterland, will be published on June 25. Her nonfiction has been published by The New York Times, The Atlantic, Salon, Allure, and Glamour, and broadcast on public radio’s “This American Life.” She graduated from Stanford and the Iowa Writer’s Workshop.
