The Calgary Airport Authority marks 25-year anniversary of its world-famous White Hat Volunteer program

Calgary, AB, 2016-Jun-30 — /Travel PR News/ —  The Calgary Airport Authority celebrated the 25-year anniversary of its world-famous White Hat Volunteer program at Calgary International Airport (YYC) today.

Representatives of The Calgary Airport Authority Board and Executive team gathered with the 440-plus volunteers to mark the milestone with a commemorative luncheon. During the celebration, a new logo was unveiled to commemorate a program that has become a globally-recognized symbol of Calgary and Alberta.

The White Hat Volunteer program began in 1991 with 45 dedicated volunteers. As the international hub grew and developed over the years so has the program, with hundreds of volunteers greeting the more than 15 million passengers who travel through YYC annually.

“YYC’s world-famous White Hat Volunteer program showcases the airport’s commitment to ensuring a first-rate passenger experience for the millions of travellers who use YYC as their hub of choice,” said Garth Atkinson, President and CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority. “The volunteers embody the spirit of our great city and region, and through their interaction with millions of passengers each year, provide an invaluable service.”

The White Hat Volunteers serve the airport community by greeting passengers, welcoming conference and convention guests, escorting dignitaries and VIPs, and helping celebrate air service milestones. Cumulatively, the White Hat Volunteers have contributed nearly one million volunteer hours at YYC. This number includes countless interactions and nearly 4,000 White Hat Welcome Ceremonies for more than 12,520 people. Some volunteers have accumulated thousands of hours of service, and included in the current cadre of more than 440 volunteers are four individuals who have been with the program since the very first day.
