Spirit Airlines Continues Liberating Consumers from High Fares

THE Ultra Low Fare Airline continues DFW expansion by announcing addition of five more cities: Baltimore, Houston, Oakland/San Francisco, Los Angeles and files to service Cancun

Miramar, Florida, 2012-07-20 — /travelprnews.com/ — Spirit Airlines (NASDAQ: SAVE) is continuing its expansion at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and its commitment to liberating consumers from high fares as it today announced it is adding nonstop service to five more cities from DFW, including Baltimore/Washington, Houston, Oakland/San Francisco, Los Angeles, and the airline has also filed to service Cancun, Mexico.  This marks a total of 20 nonstop destinations from DFW.  Spirit began service at DFW just over a year ago.

Daily nonstop service between DFW and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport begins September 6, 2012.

Twice daily nonstop service between DFW and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport begins September 20, 2012.

Daily nonstop service between DFW and Oakland International Airport and between DFW and Los Angeles International Airport begins on April 25, 2013.

In addition, Spirit has filed with the U.S. Department of Transportation to begin service between DFW and Cancun, Mexico.  Schedules and fares will be announced upon receipt of necessary governmental approval.

“We are excited to celebrate this Independence week by liberating even more customers from high fares,” said Texas native and Spirit’s Chief Marketing Officer Barry Biffle.  “We are committed to continuing to offer consumers the opportunity to save money on travel with the super low fares that our growing customer following has come to know and love.”

Spirit introduced its ultra low fares at DFW just over a year ago in May of 2011 and has aggressively continued to grow its operations ever since.  Today Spirit offers nonstop service to 15 destinations from DFW, including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, New York-LaGuardia, Orlando, Phoenix/Mesa, San Diego, Tampa, Toluca/Mexico City, and Portland, Oregon.

“We are pleased to welcome Spirit Airlines, which will offer additional flight options and low fares for our customers,” said Paul J. Wiedefeld, Executive Director of BWI Marshall Airport.  “BWI Marshall has the longstanding reputation as the convenient, ‘easy come, easy go’ airport for the Washington-Baltimore region.  The addition of Spirit bolsters that value for travelers in this market.”

“The addition of more flights and low fares is always reason to celebrate,” said Houston Mayor Annise Parker. “Bush Intercontinental is a thriving economic engine that continues to offer expanded flight opportunities. The addition of Spirit Airlines will give Houstonians new low-fare options and bring more visitors to our city.”

“It is great news for travelers to and from the San Francisco Bay Area that there will be a truly low fare option for nonstop flights to Dallas-Fort Worth,” said Deborah Ale Flint, Aviation Director for the Port of Oakland which owns and operates Oakland International Airport. “It is even better news for OAK in that the new nonstop will bring service to this large unserved market with convenient connections to Spirit’s system beyond DFW.”
