Spirit Airlines Capt. Matt Gorshe receives Outstanding Airport Safety Liaison Award from ALPA

Madison Pilot Recognized for Advancing Aviation Safety Standards

WASHINGTON, D.C., 2018-Aug-07 — /Travel PR News/ — The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) today (August 01, 2018) recognized Spirit Airlines Capt. Matt Gorshe with its Outstanding Airport Safety Liaison Award for his exemplary efforts to successfully engage and work with authorities at Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) serving Madison, Wisc. The award was presented during ALPA’s 64th Air Safety Forum in Washington, D.C.

“Capt. Gorshe has played a crucial role in ensuring that the airline pilot perspective is incorporated into ongoing projects at MSN. Through Gorshe’s ongoing relationship with local airport leaders and his participation on the runway safety action team, the number of runway incursions at the airport is noticeably lower than in previous years,” said Capt. Tim Canoll, ALPA’s president.

Having been involved in numerous airspace and airport projects in the Madison, Wisc., area, Capt. Gorshe brought the airline pilot’s view to several construction projects to help maximize the safety and efficiency of airport operations. Through consistent contact with key stakeholders, Capt. Gorshe has become highly regarded for his collaborative approach to ensuring that pilots have a voice in the projects that affect their work environment.

“The professionalism and dedication to aviation safety that Capt. Gorshe brings to his role as airport safety liaison support not only his fellow pilots, but also the passengers and cargo shippers who depend on air transportation each day,” said Capt. Stuart Morrison, chairman of the Spirit unit of ALPA. “This honor is well-earned, and Capt. Gorshe exemplifies the characteristics of Spirit pilots who devote their careers toward air safety.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the largest airline pilot union in the world and represents over 60,000 pilots at 34 U.S. and Canadian airlines. Visit the ALPA website at alpa.org or follow us on Twitter @WeAreALPA.
