SOUTH WEST TRAINS STATIONS ACHIEVE NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY

  • 24 stations re-accredited with Secure Station status
  • Passenger satisfaction with safety and security continues to grow

2013-02-12 — /travelprnews.com/ — Passengers using South West Trains have been given a further boost after 24 more locations on the network were re-accredited with Secure Station status, taking the total number with the nationally recognised safety mark to more than 100.

The latest South West Trains stations to be re-accredited include: Ash Vale, Camberley, Chertsey, Claygate, Earley, Gillingham (Dorset), Hampton, Hampton Wick, Hersham, Hook, Liphook, London Road Guildford, Martins Heron, Motspur Park, New Milton, Oxshott, Poole, Queenstown Road Battersea, Shepperton, Sunbury, Sunningdale, Swanwick, Thames Ditton, Virginia Water and Weymouth.

The Secure Station accreditation scheme is led by the British Transport Police, in conjunction with the Department for Transport. It is a national scheme designed to recognise measures taken to improve station security and reassure passengers and staff that consistent efforts are being made to deter crime and anti-social behaviour.

In addition, all 29 of South West Trains’ secure car parks have now been re-accredited with Park Mark status, an initiative led by the Association of Chief Police Officers which recognises measures taken to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour.

Matthew Winnie, Head of Security and Revenue Protection for South West Trains – Network Rail Alliance, said: “It’s great news that these additional 24 stations have been re-accredited and we’re pleased that so many passengers can continue to enjoy a safe journey with us.

“It’s even more pleasing that our passengers are noticing the improvements we are making. The most recent independent national passenger survey demonstrated that passenger satisfaction with personal security has increased by 4% since the previous survey.

“We will continue to work with the British Transport Police to make sure our stations and train services are as safe and secure as possible for the millions of passengers who use them every year.”
