Singapore Airlines significantly expanding services to Copenhagen

2012-11-02 — /travelprnews.com/ — Travelling from Copenhagen to the growth markets and popular holiday destinations in South-East Asia and Australia will now become even easier. Singapore Airlines is increasing its non-stop flights from Copenhagen to Singapore from three to five per week.

Copenhagen Airport’s position as the key transport hub of northern Europe will be strengthened, and SAS will see its route network strengthened when Singapore Airlines increases the number of weekly frequencies between Copenhagen and the business metropolis Singapore from three to five effective next March.

Alastair Hay-Campbell, General Manager, Scandinavia for Singapore Airlines is “very pleased” with this significant expansion of services to Copenhagen.

“It gives our customers better travel options, not just for going to Denmark, but also for connecting to Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Baltic States. Our alliance with SAS will ensure that all our customers can find suitable flight connections to Copenhagen and on as well as to our Singapore hub,” said Alastair Hay-Campbell.

Great perspectives
Thomas Woldbye, CEO of Copenhagen Airports, sees great perspectives in Singapore Airlines’ decision to make Copenhagen their northern European gateway.

“Singapore Airlines’ decision to substantially increase their services to Copenhagen will not just generate growth in Denmark with more incoming tourists and business people. It will also strengthen Copenhagen Airport’s position as a transport hub, and the SAS route network will benefit from more transfer passengers from Asia,” said Thomas Woldbye.

Two-thirds of Singapore Airlines’ passengers on the route are eastbound Danish and Nordic passengers, and one-third of the airline’s passengers are international passengers travelling from Asia, half of them with Denmark as their destination. The rest of the passengers travel via Copenhagen Airport to other northern European destinations.

Support from Global Connected
One reason why travellers in Singapore and Australia will soon discover that it will now be even easier to fly to Copenhagen is the support provided for the venture by Global Connected – a public private partnership focusing on strengthening the marketing of Denmark as a destination. Lars Bernhard Jørgensen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen, who is also chairman of Global Connected comments:

“We are very pleased that Singapore Airlines has decided to strengthen Copenhagen’s role as the gateway to Scandinavia and the Baltic States. Global Connected has worked closely with Singapore Airlines throughout this process, and the strong support we have received from public and private partners has been a very important factor in Singapore Airlines’ decision to strengthen its service to Copenhagen.”

Mr. Jørgensen also points to the Danish Government’s strong support of Global Connected and the efforts to attract more frequencies to Copenhagen when Ole Sohn, former Danish Minister for Business and Growth, visited Singapore earlier this year.
